Default Evans Cherries amber

I have an Evans cherry tree, its been doing great the past 4 or 5 years with lots of cherries. This year it bloomed but the nutso spring took the blooms off before they were ready so no cherries, but it has a lot of junctions and branches with what looks like amber, (quite hard) has anyone sen this before or know what it is and the cause? looks like the stems split and it oozed out too, dont know if its just sap or something else. Im in the Brooks area

The amber is called gummosis and it is a sign/symptom of the tree being stressed.

awesome thanks for the replies. I pruned the bad wood off so hopefully the tree will recover.

You sir are correct.

We lost 1000ís of ornamental cherries in Calgary to it around 2010-2011. My own even had it.

You gotta remove it and burn it. In my case it occurred on the trunk. I used a sharp knife and carved it out. Hereís a decent read. Good luck.
