Getting very short supply, existing stock is limited and they're not making any more.....so I bought a dozen bottles ranging from 15-21 yrs, because it seemed like a good idea.

Funny, I cracked the Bowmore 17 last night. Sat on the shelf for all of 2 days before I had to open it. I'm not great on picking out complexities but did notice the peat was apparent, but not heavy in the slightest. Very smooth...

Lol, sometimes it pays to make a pit stop at Superstore. I ask my wife, is it MY fault they put it within spitting distance of WSS South? I walked out of WSS empty handed, I couldn't do 2 stores in a row.

Default Thank you!

For the suggestion to try Dalmore 12yr

The Sherry Cask finish leaves it as soft as Port!

Delicious, one of my new top 5 fav's

and only $66 a bottle at SOLO, beauty!

The Scotch thread should never go as far back as page 7...Never! haha. Opened my bottle of Glenmorangie Signet the other day, that was fabulous. Also very much enjoyed the Aberlour 18 yr this evening. Life is good, I think I won't run out of fine whisky to try any time soon.

Opened the Glenmorangie 18 tonight. Fantastic stuff, enjoying a dram right now. Definitely one of the sweeter scotches that I've tried, the olorosa finishing is really apparent, but not overpowering. Warming all the way down, if brandy and whisky had offspring, this is how I'd imagine it. Delicious!!

Well, I went to another tasting last night at Vintage, and they had some very, very nice whisky to try. Highlights of the evening for me were:

1. Balvenie 17 yr Doublewood. So nice! Everything you'd expect, a more refined and complex malt then the 12, verrrry smooth, and a great finish. Quite 'chewy' on the palate, I like that one so much that 2 bottles snuck home with me.
http://scotchnoob.com/2012/10/08/the...ar-doublewood/

2. Tallisker 57 North. Wow. This one will take you by the tonsils and give you a shake! The 57 North has to do with latitude, but also the cask strength of it. At 57%, you will need to put a bit of water in it to tame it down, or it will bite you. Hardly any smoke, but tons of peat. A surprising combination! Big nose on it. This one didn't come home with me, but it may show up in the near future.

3. Arran Malt Amarone Cask finish. This one took me by surprise, I don't tend towards the lighter, sweeter malts. The color on it was also unusual, almost a rose' or peach hue. I thought of it as a dessert whisky, but saved a little for the end, and after having 4 consecutive Big Smoke whiskies, it was amazing how the flavor really opened up on this one. Hard to describe actually, but I quite enjoyed it. A bottle of this also found its way home with me.

Another that also found it's way home was a 21 yr old Glendronach, because I am trying really hard not to open my bottles of the very limited 91 and 94 I picked up...haha. I'll be trying this one this evening, and will report back!
http://whiskyinformative.com/2013/12...iament-review/

All in all, a very successful evening of tasting. The hit to the pocket book for all 4 bottles was sub $500, so I didn't feel too badly about that. I scored a bottle of 21 and 25 yr old Fine Oak Macallan the other day, you don't even want to know what those cost!

Just ran a search for Cardhu (tried it for the first time this evening) -- it is a very nice scotch. Mild, fruity...I like my peaty Islays, but this is a very nice Speyside.

That is a good one, and that Distillery is actually owned by Johnny Walker and one of the main suppliers for their blends. I really enjoy it, a nice whisky to introduce people to the malt with, and best left unblended.....

I forgot to post my Glendronnach 21 yr review, and haven't had it for a few weeks now. All I can say is, this one is a Sherry Bomb! Loads and loads of Sherry. I like it a lot, but not an every day drinker for me. Nice dram, very smooth, needs a drop of water to really open it up. Will have to have it again soon and post tasting notes.

uhhhh.....think I'm good for now Kanon. I'm full up on Macallan for now!

Besides, I have a few on my short list that fit the budget a bit better than that!

Default scotch to try

If you can find a ten year old Balvenie , give it a try. This is my benchmark.

I just spent about a year's worth of Whisky money on a Colt Anaconda.....

Luckily, I'm pretty well stocked up, so the year should pass by quickly! Raining here, and so smoky from the Dawson fire, my throat hurts. Sounds like a perfect evening to crack open the bottle of Ardbog....(that's not a misspell!) THAT is a good dram, if you can find it, buy it!

http://www.whiskyintelligence.com/20...h-whisky-news/

“At its heart our hallmark smoky yet fruity and floral spirit has been matured in Spanish ex-Manzanilla sherry casks for ten years, which has then been wrapped with traditional Ardbeg of the same age that is matured in American ex-bourbon oak casks. The Manzanilla maturation weaves salty flavours through the whisky which is then balanced with the maple syrup creaminess of the first-fill ex-bourbon casks.”

“This dichotomy of savoury and sweet flavours underlines Ardbeg’s status as the most complex of all the Islay Malts.”

I've been hoarding that one pretty tightly for a while now, still have about 2/3s left (half?) but tonight I indulge. I'm even going to have a little sip for you Kanon

Edit: Yeah, we are definitely at half on that bottle now....nom nom nom......

Hit the Costco liquor store this afternoon, came home with a crapload of beer and wine for the holidays, and a little something for me. Bottle of Oban 14 and Glenfidditch 18. Enjoying a dram of the Oban now, awesome stuff.
