Still great fishing at Maligne Lake!!!
My baby brother and I went up to Maligne for Friday and Saturday.
Even Randy at the Fishin Hole said it was slow fishing and the trout were deep.
Got to the lake and there where tourists out hiking everywhere. Skyline Trail parking lot was over full with vehicles parked in the ditches and main road.
Got to the lake, and alot of hikers but very few boaters???
It has been tough every year once the heat of August turns on.
Funny part is that the sounder was marking fish at 40 FOW especially where there were hatches of pale brown midges flying about.
Sometimes the larvae was carried out into deeper water, and you could see clouds of something on the sounder, and the fish were very aggressive.
I am not going to say you should use 6 pd florocarbon with a yellow F5 flatfish.
I am not going to say you should get the biggest Williams Wobbler in silver, take off the treble, and attach it to a Bottom Bouncer of more than 50 grams (2 ounces) then put a ball bearing swivel on the back and attach the leader of 3 feet, with whatever yellow F5 Flatfish you might have. (Lead is illegal in the National Parks unless it is over 50 grams if you read the regulations).
Other techniques might work as well. But what the other guys were doing was not working.
It was cold on the mornings, but the sun was soon up and warmed up. But be prepared for snow if you decide to make one last trip up to Maligne Lake this year!
Then again, snow seems to get the fishing going up at Maligne.
