Default Auto insurance safe driving app

Has anyone signed up for this monitoring app? 10-25% premium discount.

Seems very big brother is watching you but the discount can be huge especially for new drivers.

For my 19 year old son, i think it would be a great idea. But I’m in my early 40’s. My insurance for my truck and trailer is less than $1,000/year.
For me, my privacy is worth more than $150-$200 so i wouldn’t bother with it.

I created a few training courses for this a few years back when I was doing some work for them. So yes it pretty much tracks where you go, how far, how you brake, accelerate etc. They then use your data and determine your driver type. In talking to a couple companies I worked on this over a lunch I asked how many were at 25% discount. They both said almost zero and most that were deemed good drivers fell in 10% to 15%. Yes you can save but probably not huge and yes big brother watches every minute.

So, does it differentiate when you are a driver versus a passenger?

I've been driving since my teens, ten of thousands of km's every year, I've never had an accident or insurance claim. I don't need an app to prove I'm a safe driver, I have a driving record for that. Now give me my discount

As I told my insurance broker....

^ spot on, it’s a load of bull, just to increase your rates. I also have driven up to 100,000 kms per year in the past not as much now. Claims free and no discount

Ask them how much your insurance will go up if the data deans you a high risk driver even if you’ve never had a ticket or accident. I’m betting the fact you Drive Deerfoot at the normal speed would be enough to put your rates up!

This topic was discussed on another form I'm on, more than a few guys had their rates go up after plugging that in, some in their wife's cars, whoops!

It's a US based site with mostly 'Muricans FWIW, none that went up were in Canada.
