Default Fort McMurray on fire alert

We are on fire evacuation alert as of a few hours back.
Hopefully the crews will get it under control by morning .

Do you just have that one fire going only south west of you . Is that one on the other side of the river ?

was wondering where all the smoke in Athabasca County came from, Mac doesn't need another evac size blaze. I hope the forecasted rain for Monday stops the fire in its tracks before it does any damage. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

One on the west side of the river a bit further south I think, and two smaller ones north.
Choppers flew all night to try and mitigate the closer one.

A new one broke out at 5 PM yesterday West of Valleyview near Teepee Creek and the west winds were howling till just after midnight.
Smoke is thick already in the Valleyview area.

Very thick smoke north of Stony Plain. It blew in over night. It’s nasty here!

This link will show all fires in North America as identified by satellite.
https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov...98.5,40.8,4.0z
Just zoom in on what ever area you want to.
Be aware that some of the red dots are actually flare stacks.

That first link is awesome. I was wondering where the smoke I woke up to was coming from. It shows that it is coming from near Ft.Nelson Thanks for the link

I'm questioning it's accuracy. It's not showing anything around GP, yet there's so much smoke here I can't see beyond 2 blocks down the street.

Hang in there. I'm sure there's a lot of folks still traumatized from the first big one. Hope it gets under control and people stay safe.

Zoom in on the map. It shows lots of fires, smoke right around GP when I do it. Alsoif ypu click on the daily max layer it shows the smoke build up, not just what is wafting in currently.

This one i changed the layer and zoom

Wife is in Red Deer and says they're starting to feel smoke in lungs.

Man that map of Fort Nelson is scary stuff!

I see RMWB just issued an alert for YMM as well. Friends up there seem calm but are packing personal items just in case.

Stay safe all

I see it now. Messing with the layers helped.

Good luck to everyone close to a fire, there's been too many lately!

I didn't realize how bad it was until now, surprising how quickly it happened. There's thick smoke between Olds and Sundre since about 5 o'clock.

The wife and I went fishing on Travers this evening, when we left the boat launch it was clear and 5 minutes later when we stopped to fish it was smoky.

Yeah, it's really bad in GP, all day. Like Marlboro Man 3 packs a day bad. Got the HEPA unit running on high, but still got a wicked headache.
