Default fishing around kelowna

hey, heading to Kelowna in August, going to be tenting. Any recommendations on good places to camp, close access to decent shore fishing?

Been years since I fished around Kelowna, but there are a lot of lakes up in the hills with great trout fishing, and some used to have camp grounds. Oyama, Beaver and Little White come to mind. I'd do some research on google if I were you. Include Vernon and Penticton in your search, if you don't mind a little drive.

You have to fish for smallmouth in vaseaux or skaha when you're there.

I spend a couple weeks in Vernon every fall. In early fall, I go tenting, and later (2nd week of October), I fish the smaller rivers for rainbows gorging on salmon eggs.

There is tons of small watercraft fishing---renting a canoe or kayak will go a long way. Vaseaux is a good example (although, it gets unbelievably windy there). The backroads and backroads fishing book will get you into a lot of different places. There are many little lakes with huge stocked triploid rainbows. Shore access is not great, but since the lakes are so small, if you can access an area, you can probably catch fish.

Depending when you go in August other opportunities start to appear---if it is near the end, the chinooks will start running. The rainbows will move up from the lakes into the rivers to eat salmon eggs.
