Default Cold Lake May Long

A great weekend it was. We had a total of 7 guys and gals out in our group at various times throughout the weekend. 3 boats and lots of fun. EZM came by our campsite for a bit to talk fishin by the fire for a bit and lots of fish were caught. I would guess about 100 lakers and 1 gator. 3 lakers were over 75cm.
I landed 2 of them, both jigging and buddy got his jigging as well.

Lots of these fish were caught trolling. My Scotty Downriggers worked perfect, all my scotty rod holders were great as usual and no issues with any of the products.

My new Lowrance HDS Carbons were out of this world. They worked great and the 3D was a really cool new feature which will take a bit of work to tweak and get using more.

When ever I was trolling I was using new to me lures. I was testing out some new Northern King Lures. They were acquired by Albertas own Len Thompson Lures over the winter and they have been shipped out their first shipment to distributors. They worked awesome, a light 4 1/2" trolling spoon that has a wobble that's amazing. Every color combo I used was a hit. My favorite is the Homeland Security Glow.

Here are some of the highlights from the weekend. Completely ice free by Sunday night.

First laker of the season for our group

Jeez that's post card material guys thanks for sharing some beautiful pictures. See what it looks like when these winds hit 90 km like they say. Used to drive to the windward shore of cold when winds were crazy it was awesome for alberta., she really gets rolling.

What an awesome May long weekend, both weather wise and from the looks of things fishing wise.

I haven't even looked at my boat yet this spring

Not going up this weekend but may sneak up for a day next week to fish with a buddy and show him how to run his new gear. Have a few buddies going up tonight and tomorrow. Wish I was going up again. Good luck out there fellows.

Thanks for having us over to the camp for a beer boys. It was fun.

Those Northern King spoons seem like something to give a try ...... heck ...... everyone needs more lures right?

They sure seemed to be working much better than what we were dragging through the water.

Was a beautiful weekend - I don't think I ever saw the lake quite that still in all the years we have been going up .... it was surreal.

We were at Cold lake this past weekend. My wife, as usual, caught the biggest fish almost right away, a 10.5 pounder that was barely legal 78cm. We caught 11 Saturday on calm water and 2 Sunday morning in rougher water. Most were about 60-64cm. Beautiful healthy fish that are fun to catch. Ironically, I broke the transducer off the back of the boat and the spare sonar I carry would not register depth yet we had our best trip there ever. Finally, finally, finally I caught more fish than my wife but she got the first and 2 biggest. It was very hot in the sun, we were in various stages of undress so my pictures are x-rated and cannot be posted, my wife might have some that I can post.

Kurt, we have a blue Crestliner and I fly a Canadian flag. We were in front of the cabins mostly. What were you in? We haven't fished there much but have had a couple of trips with no fish so this trip was fantastic.
