Pretty easy to teach anyone to shoot either weapon......not so simple to teach them to get within archery ranges....That's why I keep asking, why criticize a weapon that is easy to learn how to use proficiently. I don't hear too much whining about how much releases and pin sights have made compounds easier to learn to shoot and there shouldn't be. Why should that be a negative about crossbows? Your analogy was a very poor one.
With declining numbers of hunters, peoples lives getting busier, and free time getting harder to find its amusing, even silly calling the learning curve of the xbow a negative.
Not everyone has the time or location to become an elite....I mean "real" bow hunter.
And as far as people not seeing crossbows being used, well who in their right mind wants to be out in the bush trying to get close to an animal....all the while hoping some bullet doesn't come by?
Oh I forgot the xbow can shoot just as far as rifles...
Getting shot sure would be fun......
Really does anyone really find this surprising? Really?

Oh boy now you've gone and done it...you've introduced facts into the debate. We don't want to hear facts!! That just throws everything off.

No,I can't be bothered because like I said before,if I have to explain it,obviously you're not a bowhunter and wouldn't get it anyhow.

Like somebody else(?) has posted previously, spend a season or two bowhunting.....longbow,recurve....or God forbid a deadly,high-tech compound, then come back and tell us how hunting with a x-bow is exactly the same.Keep an account of how many times you got busted drawing on game, and how many times you had a brief window of opportunity to shoot but the game got away because your hand drawn bow isn't cocked and loaded, ready to fire instantly at all times.Until then, your internet ninja opinion don't really mean jack.

I've actually done just that (30 some years with the compound and two with the crossbow)...personally I prefer the compound for ease of use. Even if crossbows are permitted, I wouldn't use one.

What are the reasons again for moving xbows from where they are to where they are proposed to go?

In MOST cases, throughout MOST jurisdictions where x-bows are allowed,it's lobbying from x-bow manufacturers and local sales reps/stakeholders that is the driving force behind the issue. There have been no "x-bow associations" in any state or province prior to x-bows being legalised, fighting for "the rights" of x-bowyers....no,it's always the manufacturer's lobby. They know that without inclusion into existing bow seasons, there is really no incentive or attraction for people to buy their product, with the exception of a very few hunters that wish to challenge themselves by using x-bows in gun seasons where allowed, but allow them into bow seasons and regional sales increase exponentially.

I've been bowhunting 20 years, and won't be trying an xbow, but still think it's an option for others, and it's probably a much better fit with the archery season IMO !

After painfully reading the last 15 pages since my last post, i see that much progress has been made and that all is well !!!! Seriously, we all need to voice our opinions, and then remember that at the end of the day, we're all still hunters and must stay united and not fight / bicker over every small difference !

I really doubt that xbows are going away, so we might as well put them in an appropriate season and carry on like adults, there may be a few changes, but in the long run this will still be a benefit to more than it impacts!!!

Having options is never a bad thing !!!

To increase revenue's for the gov. through increased sale of bow hunting permits and also from increased draw requirements once x-bows are in.

Whatta think the gov's stance might be with this whole debate

give er' up boys.........she's a lost cause..

So in your fantasy world ,the crossbow hunter is wandering through the bush with his/her crossbow locked and loaded ,and shouldered as they look hunt through a scope ? ... I just realized something-- your total hunting knowledge is based on your video gaming experiences. What is you preference for a more challenging hunt, xbox or nintendo?

If the animal you are shooting at "busts" you while you try to draw your compound ,then you wont get it with a crossbow either cuz you still need to bring that thing up and aim and shoot ,unless you're just flinging an arrow in the general direction of the animal. Even with a rifle you need to take the time to make a responsible shot ,unless you dont care about a bad hit.

WTH is a internet ninja opinion?

Hate to break it to you but the government makes vitually nothing off of bow permits and draw apps.

A large organized group of hunters has asked the government to consider it.....it seems like they listened.

I've been doing a little reading on the comparison of the a muzzleloader and a 30.30, since it was brought up on here. Not to go off topic, kinda, but why can't a 30.30 be used in a muzzleloader season, when everything is almost identical in stats??? muck like xbows and bows. the only difference again would be " draw " or loading i guess! Just seems like another good argument.

I don't understand the harm in having a xbow and muzzleloader season combined. It would solve every argument pro and against .

A very good analogy...some states are actually doing just that. All comes down to are the mechanical differences enough.

Not my analogy, I think it might have been yours, can't take credit for someting that ain't mine. But a great arguement, and it made me learn something about both weapons.

So lets see if I have this figured out.

If one takes a bow, lays it on it's side, and attaches it to a piece of wood with a trigger mechanism on it, this bow magically becomes a rifle.

Okay, got it. Now I can see what all the fuss is about.
