Way to go. What fly were you using for the pike and the walleye?

I've used a black and white clouser there and it worked great.

Default Pike

Did he slide out under the dock on you or did you get him off the shore? I have thought about bringing the flyrod too but get stuck on my jigging.

If you want a fly that they really like then go to any fly shop and ask for a "Double Bunny" they come in sizes from 4" to 10" long. You might think "the bigger the fly the bigger the pike". But it's not really the way it goes. I've caught some of the smallest Hammer Handles on the 10" flies. Seriously these pigs of the fish world will eat anything smaller than them.

good feeling isnt it? very addicting to see that bent rod...

anyways... i find they hammer almost anything. Late fall i tend to use some floating mouse and frog patterns for top-water action... the success i have been having this year are any streamers with a red and yellow or chartruse combination. This winter I will start tying my own. Fishin hole has a moderate selection... i am actually heading to wholesate sports aroudn noon to buy some bigger streamers. In my signature... there are a couple good pike on the fly sites.

This summer i have caught no pike on top water... all have been just after i let the fly sink for about 5 seconds (6-8 ft deep, which is length of my leader)... and after about 3 quick strips in. This past weekend... i actually caught more wallys this way than pike.

A great resrource for technique (and inspiring trophy pike on the fly catches) is youtube. If you search pike on the fly... you should see great vids and some instructional stuff. This weekend i will be teaching my daughter how to handle a 9wt (dryland fist!!)... so hopefully she will get into it with me.

If you ever get out to pigeon... let me know... we can meet on the water somewhere.
