If you haven't figured it out yet, I try and base everything on facts, data driven information and only consider validated credible sources.

I have no motivation in steering anyone to a wrong conclusion on this topic.

The CDC director did say "there could be 10 times more people infected" which is 100% true I guess.

Part of the issue that MANY scientists have an issue with is, including myself, is that the antibody tests were only done on a few thousand people, and something like 8-9% had antibodies (a few hundred). TRUE.

BUT - and here's the kicker - the majority of these were done on people looking to get tested that could not be tested earlier, and/or were post isolation after symptoms - so it WAS NOT a random population cross section which would yield unbiased results. This, clearly, does not.

What I mean by biased, and I am using that in the statistical and clinical sense, is that most (or all) of these people were tested due to symptoms, exposure and or their inability to get the tests they were previously requesting - so yeah - this group should, logically, exhibit a much higher infection rate in comparison to the general population.

It's kind of like going into a Greek neighborhood in downtown wherever, and surveying the first 100 people that walk by and asking them if they are Greek.

The result comes back that 30% of the people are Greek, but it doesn't mean that the entire city is 30% Greek as that would be a biased study resulting in flawed and/or inaccurate results.

In Europe they have done some randomized antibody and marker testing and have found that it ranges from 1.5% up to 3% in general, randomized, control studies. These were also, unfortunately small, but at least they were random and largely unbiased. They were also looking primarily at an age group to study asymptomatic transmission - bit did do a number of control groups to for statistical referencing.

My guess is the US could be higher, but 10% seem very hard to validate at this point. The bottom line is simple CURRENTLY THERE IS NO CLINICAL RANDOM SAMPLING DATA PUBLISHED WHATSOEVER TO SUPPORT THIS 10% number that I have seen. I did look. Couldn't find it.

If you can find it, let's discuss it. Not an article with an opinion, but the clinical study with data.

I've seen the comment from the CDC director, and in my opinion, it was a very poorly worded "possible scenario" the director was discussing and he should have known better than doing that. I was shocked. There was no reference. It has long since been passed over now and I can't believe there was no follow up questions to what would have been a huge change to what we know and currently believe. But it's Crickets …… do you find that strange? I certainly do.

Either way - If I did that in my presentations to my bosses and made a comment like that without backup to a critical topic like that and could back it up - I would have been out of a job a long time ago.

Bottom line is I'm NOT ready to go there yet. It has not been validated as far as I know.

I could be wrong. It would be good news, but the death rate would already be TRIPLE the silly 99.5% number some people are talking about IF EVERYONE SURVIVED that is currently infected and resolved.

The reality is the death rate is >12% as of yesterday excluding unresolved cases.
For those that like to say that a majority of the population has probably had covid but had no symptoms, they may want to have a look at a real study, published in a real journal. The results clearly show that as hard hit as Spain was, they still only have a small percentage of their population that has been infected by covid.
Myth debunked........

This article is just a break down explaining the Spanish study.

Let’s hope they locate the community source.

Pelosi is not in a position to mandate, order or legislate measures that would mitigate the virus like social distancing or wearing masks the President is.

He accepted the ran for the position, was elected and is responsible for this mess. A poll indicates that two thirds of Americans agree that Trump and his administration have done a terrible job combating this virus.

So, is this another clever deflection to move the conversation to something else?

For the record, have a look at my past posts about Pelosi, Trump, Trudeau and a few others I am not a fan of. It's all there for you to see exactly how I feel. As far as I'm concerned all three can take a hike.

Is Trump stopping flights arriving from China 2 months AFTER the outbreak the only thing you can think of to demonstrate what a powerful, perfect, excellent and uge' job he has done? really? omg lol.

Problem is they cannot issue an executive order. They cannot mandate changes. They cannot legislate laws.

Society's recourse is either voting him out of office in November or putting real pressure on their legislators now.

So, generally, you are right, but that can't happen overnight.

Of course & make it a big cake ... LOL!

If it was up to me, during this Covid I would install a couple of Toll Booths at every entrance and you would have to pay $20.00/head for anyone 18 plus to access the beach & for those out-of-towners fishin they would forfeit their 1 Walleye to the residents. The cash collected would go towards cleaning up all the garbage that everyone left behind last weekend, any leftovers would go to help the business buy more PPE to keep their staff safe.

Actually, there could be a quick fix. If reports are true that the administration is dropping the CDC from raw data access, things will start looking rosy. Other than that, the election is the only known on the horizon.

I heard that today as well and could not believe my ears. Only caught the tail end of the report, so Trump is having all the infection, death, hospitalization data going directly to his internal team instead of the CDC?

You are right, if that's true, there will be a miracle cure on the horizon as hospitals are overwhelmed, morgues fill up and he will say "nothing to see here folks, move along".

We have friends that live in Scotland. They are travelling to the Spanish coast in a couple weeks to a beach town. The beach is cordoned off and there are about 5000 4x4m spots for 1-4 people that are 6’ from each other. There is also a police presence. Once those marked areas are full the beach is at capacity. They are even trying an online booking system. You can reserve your spot the day before.

If it’s a problem, couldn’t they do something along those lines?

I’m sure the area they are going to is Malaga. Even before the covid they gave you a spot and it was crazy with crowds. I hated that beach area. The town is fine but it is so crowded in that part of the Mediterranean.

Sylvan needs to close the beach or outbreaks are going to continue. People just don’t get it or care

The town should've closed most of the parking downtown and near the beach and the problem would've been solved for the most part. But... That's a major revenue for them, so... It's the people's fault.

I never said anything about Trump doing a great job, merely pointed out that long after he banned flights the Democrats were laughing at him for doing so. Now they condemn his actions. Fairly hypocritical. See how easily you triggered and started with the Trump impression? TDS to the extreme.

Not sure why you think I'm "triggered" - think about it for a second - I'm answering a question you asked me.

If my responses hurt your feelings, or isn't what you want to hear ….. how about this .........… maybe stop asking me questions trolling for a response.

Try it out.

Effective testing back then would likely have corrected missteps on both sides. Today however, the pres is taking steps to obfuscate the data. Tell me again where the hypocracy lies.

At least they are not abandoning their workplace and staying silent. Here we had military intervention in early stages because some care homes never had any ppe to start with, and workers never bothered speaking out. While at the same time government destroyed our emergency ppe supply, apparently it was running out of date.

those care homes were a disgrace well before the pandemic hit....the pandemic just showed how mismanaged they were....the owners of those places should be strung up...

Just seen this article published July 16th .... Alberta Health Services (AHS) is investigating a number of COVID-19 cases on Hutterite colonies within the province.

There is minimal risk to the general public, noted a statement.

“We are working closely with the Hutterian Safety Council and individual colony leadership to support COVID-19 contact tracing and further reduce the impact of COVID-19 on the colonies.

“The few colonies with individual cases in Alberta are working closely with AHS and Alberta Health. Health officials are in close contact with all those impacted to limit spread and protect the public health. We want to thank these colonies for their ongoing cooperation and efforts to stem the spread of the virus.”

Contact tracing and testing are underway of anyone who may be at risk.

“We are not releasing specifics about locations in order to maintain patient confidentiality, nor are we releasing detailed breakdowns of cases by particular religious groups or communities. The individual communities are free to comment further as they see fit.”

AHS implements 14-day quarantine measures on Hutterite Colonies that have a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.

“This is a standard practice with individuals who have been in contact with a positive case of COVID-19, just on a larger scale given the communal living within colonies.

“AHS Public Health is coordinating with colonies to ensure there is training and education around COVID-19 preventative measures, quarantining criteria, as well as options for testing.

“These are difficult times for everyone – in our province and around the world. Nobody is to blame and it is more important than ever to be kind and supportive of one another. It is understandable that people have concerns and fear as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. But we should not allow those fears to harm others in any way.

“We must all work together and support each other every day until this worldwide health issue is no longer a threat.”
