New Fly Line
Hey guys. was thinking of getting new fly line. I cheaped out when I bought mine initially and bought the cheapest one that I could find.
Been looking around and have pretty much decided on Rio Gold. Only thing holding me back is I have been wondering about the new Hydros fly lines from Orvis.

Has anyone ever had any experience with the orvis lines? Are they worth the extra money and shipping? or should I stick with the Rio? I am going to go with a 5wt weight forward taper floating line.
Thanks in advance

Rio is amazing, although I did just buy a SA line and I love it. Otherwise I'm a Rio junkie.

Rio personally. Either way you will notice a big difference with the high end line vs cheap line... Most make the mistake of cheaping out on line, better line is worth the price!

Haven't heard much about the airflow. How does it compare to the rio?

Airflo has great texture and is less coily than my rio's. Their sixth sense line in DI 5 is awesome and is very sensitive for takes.
My selection of Rio lines has been incredibly good too. Rio Gold is good but the midge tip is Awesome.

Finally upgraded my fly line. Went with the Rio Gold. Thanks for all your input.

Another vote for Rio lines.
I had SA lines a few times and they break down pretty quick. I have had my rio line for double the amount of time I had any of my SA lines and it still has a season or 2 left in it.

rio gold is nice, but not very durable. I like good ol' cortland 444 weight forward. The price isnt so shocking, its durable and comes in a variety of colors.

I have tried a bit of everything and i like the RIO Grande and I am back on it. I just like the front heavy taper feel when it loads your rod in the back cast.

This is a pretty good question.
Have you asked this question on other fly fishing forums? I, and other AO members would be interested to see what the responses are just like you.
With Rio you can't go wrong. I have put SA on the back burner at least for now.

Fly Line
My first rod was a Sage Launch that came with a real and line already installed. Does anyone have any idea what kind of line this may be? After 3 seasons, do you think it is time for a line upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Pyke

I did. I asked on both af3 and bcflyfish.com. Was not able to get any sort of an answer on either site.

fly lines
You may find that Rio lines go to hell rapidly. Most of the ones I have had started to crack just behind the head. I have about 20 fly lines for lots of different rods and I have now swung to Airflo as their lines are made of, I believe, polyethelene, I do stand to be corrected on that though. My Airflo lines have lasted way longer than the Reo's. They have low memory and low stretch. Expensive but well worth it. I think they are also gaurenteed for more than one year.
They are extremely nice lines.
