Default Computer help - issues watching videos

Hopefully someone can chime and and give me some help. Windows 7. For some reason, I have lost the ability to watch videos on websites. For example, on facebook when I go to watch a video, the audio will play but not the video. The video remains blank. Youtube videos work but not videos on websites. It used to work but in the last couple weeks it stopped working. I deleted and re-installed flash player but it made no difference. Thanks in advance

It could be a browser issue...either reinstall your current browser, or try a different one. Im guessing your current installation has become corrupted.
You could check your antivirus quarantine for files that have been wrongly deleted.

yep and I just tried this a second time and it still didn't make a difference. When you said browser, I assume youre talking about internet explorer? I will re-install IE and see if that works.

Don't reinstall IE, download and install firefox and try through there.

Something else you can try as well is reset Internet explorer under tools -> internet options -> advanced. click the reset button and try again.

you may have a browser addon that is causing your issues as well. Under tools, look for manage addons.

Dont bother with Internet explorer ...try opera, firefox, or chrome depending on your preference. Personal favorite is opera.

Edit: Reinstall Internet Explorer if thats your preference, but there are more secure browsers (free) that you can try.

IE has always been known to be the least secure in terms of viruses and malware, and the fact that it is so integrated into windows makes that a bigger problem. To be fair it has come a long ways and is pretty good now. Opera or Firefox is similar enough that you shouldnt have a problem running them.

Whichever you chose i would install sandboxie (free or paid) which isolates your browser from the rest of the system to protect from viruses etc.

So I installed Firefox and it works fine now. I uninstalled and then reinstalled ie 10 and it's back to not working. I can stay with Firefox but I don't really understand why IE no longer works.

Im guessing some setting or something has changed possibly if you have windows set to automatic update. I read that they were going to start updating to IE 10 if not already installed, which might have caused a problem.

One thing about firefox is that you can customise it almost endlessly with add ons and extensions. Two that are good are Adblock plus and DownThemAll!, but there are hundreds to check out.
