Default Fishing around Hinton

This weekend we will be spending time around Hinton enjoying some family time. There will be time for a little fishing, either from shore or our canoe.

Do you folks have any advice regarding general locations and suggestion for lures that are effective around the area. We are very comfortable paddling on the Athabasca River (we`ve paddle over 700km of the river) and have considered Jarvis, Obed and Pepper Lakes.

Any advice or input you are willing to share would be accepted.

Thanks in advance.

I know - from others, not from first hand experience - that the Athabasca can be fine fishing if it hasn't been hit by runoff yet.

As far as lakes, not sure about Peppers or Jarvis, but Obed can be real tough fishing. Lots of guys put in lots of hours for a few bites (if you're targeting the trophy brown trout). I will say ice-off in spring is good timing though if you're going to try that lake.

If you want rainbow or brook trout, you might want to consider Kinky, Wildhorse, or Millers (by Edson).

Your best bet for monster trout is Peppers Lake.

From that advice, I think I'll throw in the salmon landing net that I used last year out on the coast. Do you think I should throw in a come-a-along for getting it onto the filleting table, and perhaps a chainsaw for cleaning as well?

Thanks for all the input.....and the humour.
