Tijuana is only about 15 miles from you.
Hop the border, buy yourself some cheap tequila.

If you want to stay around the city, luxor's idea isn't all bad.

Went to sea world in feb. Getting to pet sharks and rays was pretty cool. It was a good way to spend the day. Went to the pier there in the evening. Was nice as well. I'd do it again if I were there

Hike up Cowles mountain. Watch the sunset, hike back down. Just did that tonight. I've been here for a week. I could move here in a heartbeat. The 360°.view is out of this world.
Or hang out at Mission Beach on the boardwalk and watch the sunset. Great people watching and today it was 34°.

During the week here, we:
  • went to La Jolla and petted sea lions on the beach
  • went whale watching and saw hundreds of dolphins and 3 whales
  • did seaworld (that was just "okay". Terrible commercialism and very Disney'ish. Also $$$$)
  • Rented electric bikes and went up and down the boardwalk and around Mission Bay
  • went to Coronado Island and toured the 135 year old Del Coronado hotel
  • toured the USS Midway aircraft carrier
  • went on a dinner cruise around Coronado bay
  • ate fantastic seafood @ seaside restarants

Catch the Blue Line Trolley anywhere downtown headed South takes you right to the border. Cross into Mexico on foot and walk into Tijuana about 15 minutes with tons to see on the way.
Bring passport
Stop into where they invented the Caesar Salad.
About $2.50 each way last time I was there.
Get ready to be swarmed by kids selling Chicklets 2 per pack and donkeys spray painted to look like hot pink Zebras.

Something perverse about what goes on down there, but hop on the rail and you are back to your hotel in 1/2 hour

There is a fantastic restaurant in San Diego that is built slightly below the water line. When it gets dark the restaurant shine lights on the water and the baitfish swarm everywhere with birds going for the easy pickins.
The name will come to mind.

Old Town is also ok to spend a few hours

Too bad you were not there on April 19th. It was the Avocado Festival in Fallbrook. Crazy times. I try to be down for the festival every 5 years or so.

Tijuana is a dump and very sketchy, better to spend the day around San diego, awesome city. Hit up a Padres game or even get a fishing charter.

The name of that restaurant in La Jolla is The Marine Room.
Private Dining
They also open the bar late during the Grunion Runs.
