Default Old idea of a fifth wheel

Now this is what I call a fifth wheel. Pretty slick. How'd you like this feature?

Something that if it failed at highway speeds would translate to lots of fun...

no thanks.

I see a different application for this obsolete idea.

the scenario: You have the "fifth (spare) wheel" installed on your 4X4. You are stuck in a set of ruts miles from help. You engage your fifth wheel to lift the 4X4, roll to the side and set the stuck wheels up out of the ruts. Could be useful... maybe
