Default How Are You Dealing With The Election Calls?

This is turning out to be the most annoying election ever. Every candidate is calling, and for every one of them, there seems to be two companies taking surveys. In the beginning, I either never answered or just hung up, but they just keep keep on calling. Calling or e-mailing the company, or the candidate, and asking to have my number removed from their list, has worked in many cases, but some are just stubborn. My latest technique has proven to be quite effective. I call the company, or the party/candidate, and ask question after question, keeping them on the phone as long as I can. Then after wasting their time as long as I can, I inform them that every time they call me, I will call them again, and waste their time again. So far this technique has been very effective, only one company called again after I called them, and they haven't called, since I called them the second time. How are you dealing with the election phone calls?

I don't mind if they come to the door, then I get the satisfaction of throwing them off of my property. I find that quite entertaining. It's the phone calls that are annoying.

Caller id. If I don't know you I don't answer. If you want to talk to me leave a message and I'll call back.

Arrow Like, it's to be expected, eh!

.
We haven't seen a provincial election like this in Alberta since 1971, when the ruling Socreds got blown out of the water.

Buckle up and hang on tight!

YeeHaw!

I've only had one call from a party. It was from the office of the leader of the party I plan to support. They asked if they could count on my support and I said "most likely" then they asked if they could put a sin on my lawn and I said "not a chance." All those surveys? I've hung up on most of them. I did go through one, but it's just a pain for nothing.

As they often call while I'm at school, I don't answer anyway.

I like to give a bit of a sinister laugh and then ask "seriously?". I then take a brief moment to enjoy their dumfounded "what does he mean by that? Am I in danger?" look before closing the door with a "not interested".

So far just the NDP has come to the door. WR will get a beer.

Double clik on cordless handset when I see the toll free display and it boots them out.
I am getting exceedingly fast on the trigger.
It is like pre-season training for hunting season!!!

I have an email prepared to send tomorrow..

Good morning Liberal Party of Alberta,

During the last few days I have received a ridiculous amount of phone calls from your party asking for my support. Most of these calls appear to be coming from a United States call centre. All of them automated.

I have to be honest, I hadn't paid any attention to them until today.
You see, I received an automated call from one of your candidates, whom I could barely understand, and who is not even in my riding! He made the most gracious offer to me over the phone; a ride to go and vote at the May 5th election!

As it so happens, my black Dodge dually is booked in for service that day and the polls are over a block away from my house.
It is my understanding that the Wildrose Party has the only realistic platform that has any chance of succeeding in Alberta, so I desperately want to make sure I get my vote for them in.
So, if the offer is still there, I would love a ride to the polls.
If you could arrange a pick-up sometime between 5:53pm and 5:55pm that would be perfect!
Thanks again for the great offer!

Sincerely
ME

It doesn't apply to politicians, or people taking surveys, in other words, it is useless.

Only had two calls. Both were wr. The first call I couldn't understand because he was a new Canadian. That didn't please me to much.

Had a sit down with our WR candidate a week before the election call. Nice guy and wanted to get my take on outdoor issues.

Had the PC supporter come by, but the Pit Boss answered the door and told them no adults were home.

No calls to my cell, couldn't say about the house because I'm not home during the week.

I have received 7 calls, 1 WR and said thank you have not decided.
1 from my CON MLA rep and told them I only talk to the person wants my vote
1 from my previous CON MLA and told them if they could not figure who is in their riding how do they expect to manage government, so go Foff
2 from the rep of the head boy himself, jimmy boy. hung up do not accept robo calls.
2 from pollsters and lied thru my teeth, told them I am supporting the CONS and all their policies, doing a great job. I guess they like that that is why they called me again.

Haven't gotten any phone calls yet, just junk in the mail - and this morning, every condo in here had PC flyers slipped under the door. Quick look showed blue, got torn up and tossed.

PCs called. Asked them why the hell would I vote for a golf Pro to represent me in this riding?

Wink

I tell the PC I don't vote turn coat. I tell the Wildrose I don't vote wingnuts. I told NDP I hate communists. I tell the Liberal I never heard of the party.

For all phone polls I say NDP.

Default Surprisingly?

The quietest election in those terms I've ever seen here. Just a handful of calls/robocalls. Brochure drops from 4 candidates - 1 each. Only 2 door knocks that I know of (one Greens, one ND - not the candidates - both sent packing in short order). An e-mail from my city councillor (personal) on his own views as to "strategic" voting and wanting me to consider mending my determination not to support the PC's again - we had a fun discussion. And lots of e-mail promos and updates from the PC party (I guess they still haven't clued in to take me off their list, but that's fine). Its the first time since I've been resident in Alberta (34 years) that I have not been actively involved in campaigning in some official capacity. Maybe its just a lack of numbers of volunteers and amounts of funds for all the campaigns in this constituency (?).
