Default Advice on Broad Leaf Spray/ Fertilizer for Lawn

I recently bought a quad mounted boom sprayer. I've found it was too expensive to hire fertilizing/weed control out. We have around 1.5 acres+- of lawn that really had bad dandelion probems last year. The year previous was lush and very little broadleaf. I would like to keep those weeds under raps this year. Any suggestions on products (fertilizer and weed killer) that have worked for you in the past? Much appreciated as I'm very green at reviving grass (pun intended). Thanks

Grazon should take care of your dandelion and broadleaf problems.

I rotate my sprays year to year.

I like mcpa, 2-4-d, grazon and par 3.

As far as fertilizer, I like something with lots of nitrogen.

I fertilize 4 times per year. Spring, mid June, mid July and late August.

I also end up spending way too much time mowing. But damn it looks good.

I also had the same problem with having to mow almost twice a week

As soon as I cut back on the nitrogen, the mow times got a lot more reasonable, and the lawn still looks good

Summers are for fishing and other good stuff ... not mowing!

Par3 is what you want to get rid of broadleafs. 20-10-10-10 would be a good fertilizer mix.

Thanks guys. Bought a country clipper last year. Sucker mows at 9mph zero turn. My wife loves that machine so much that she cuts the grass the majority of the time (yep, I scored)

I think there was a buy out and Par3 is now re branded as Trillion. Last purchase for me was last spring from UFA and that is what I was told. They want you to prove you have land to use it on other than a town or city lot. I used tax notice with legal land description and had to sign a piece of paper declaring I would not use it on my lawn. I think it was them doing a bit of arse covering. Works very well for dandelion control.

You can still get get Killex in concentrate form for grass. On my city yard I just mix some in a spray bottle and walk around the yard. Works great for me. You should be able to mix it in a tow behind mower sprayer. If you want good grass and not too much mowing, use a fertilizer with a low nitrogen number. First number of the three.

Default Dandelions

Par III seems to have a little better control on Broadleaf weeds than Trillion, even tho they have the same ingredients. Recommended rate is 2 liters per acre and should cure the dandelion problem. More room for grass, and need less fertilizer 😀
