Are you saying that they did not exit the vehicle or shot from the road during this?

If the animals were left and you saw the incident did you report it? Being angry and venting here does not help the situation.

Any chance this is related to a certain person who got punched and lost his deer earlier in the season?
That land is posted to the nines, and there is no way that someone made a mistake

Default hunting

The ranch has been closed to hunting since 1994 until 2014, we are trying to build back some good mule deer genetics. In 2014 we opened up to bird and some deer hunting. Now due to the lose of one of my non typical mule deer by two dirt bags in a Toyota. I see myself having to close the ranch again, as I have lost one of my prime breeding stock for future generations. That will be 9000 acres of deeded land CLOSED!!

X2, it's one thing to kill an animal and make use of it, it's another thing to wound and waste animals, hopefully the next life they and the animals who are wounded in pain.

One of your non typical mule deer? Is this on a mule deer farm? No one should be hunting like that on or off private land for sure

Report it and try to recover the spent cases.......I have found a few of them when the exact same scenario has happened in this area.

There is so much of this thread missing? What's up with that? Is this a deer farm in some other province?

Nope just a rancher trying to get the mule deer herd on his deeded land back up to what they used to be .
He only refers to them as " his" deer because they live on his ranch , but he knows full well they can walk off at any time
No high fences or anything like that .

I'm not sure why, but it really bothers me when people say that

Especially ones who only own a 1/4 section.

Also, OP, please don't cry and lecture us about pochaers.

I think what you're doing is great. The mule deer population in this province is in dire straits. To me it is because people seem to shoot any deer as opposed to targeting mature deer. I wish more ranchers and farmers had the land mass and mind set to carry out what you are.

Good on you and thanks for being a stewad of the land.

Report the scumbags and press charges. F&W should be able to come up with enough charges for a good fine and suspension.

I understand and appreciate your good intentions trying to restore a healthy
population of mule deer on your ranch. I do take exception to you referring to the deer on your ranch as yours. You own the ranch, not the deer.
Having said that, thank you for proactively doing what you can to restore a healthy population of mule deer in your area. I respectfully consider you a good steward of the wildlife living on your land.

Why can't we have more respectful comments like this on the forum. Still stating your own opinion, but giving props where they are due. We have enough odds stacked against us we don't need to be b****ing back and forth at one another. Don't understand why we hardly support our own these days. Too much bashing going on for my liking.

Did they have permission and were irresponsible or were they outright poaching? Just asking because if they did not have permission closing the land will not stop these activities. As a side not if you are trying to establish good genetics your greatest ally is a number of line minded hunters that will help you harvest target animals and leave others alone.

Stuff like that doesnt even need to be said.

The landowner is taking ownership of the situation the Wildlife living on his land is in. That's what should be read.

Posting "you're a really nice guy, but...." is a passive aggressive way of stating the opposite.

That isn't ok Shortgrub. Anything left behind to help identify the vehicle if not the dinks that did this?

Don't let the poachers ruin it for the sportsmen.

One reads what is written. Now you sir are making a poor attempt to interpret ones response to what was written. Are you a highly trained linguistic analysist as well an accomplished psychologist? I simply stated my opinion regarding what was written. Nothing more, nothing less.

I actually do have training in linguistics (That's not what we're doing here btw) and psychology (again not whats being done here).

It's common for people to use passive aggression when they are stating their opinion and still worried about being a nice guy. It's called riding the fence. Recognizing it is as easy as reading books and seeing examples. No degrees or doctorates need apply.

It's also very common for rural locals that have animals they see regularly on their property to call those animals "theirs". These people also commonly take ownership in these animals wellbeing and learn from them.

I saw what you wrote, recognized what it was, and stated my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

To be clear I am not worried about being a nice guy and am not riding any fence. You seem to have difficulty interpreting what I wrote. If you try again you should be able to interpret and understand the fact that I made two specific points in response to Shortgrub's post. One, he owns the land and does not own the deer he referred to as his. Secondly I fully understand and appreciate Shortgrub's efforts to do what he can to restore a healthy mule deer population on and around his land. For that, I consider him a good steward of wildlife. I suggest you read the current thread regarding Civility. I think you may gain some perspective.
