Default Jack fish lake

I went out yesterday and the day be for looking for safe ice to fish. All I will say is the ice is random thickness at best. So be safe and here is a video. I did find 4.5" I would think it will be thicker with this cold snap but the temps are not favorable.

How disappointing, I was hoping that with the constant -15C overnights we would see a solid 4-6" on these smaller lakes by now.

Guess I'm setting up the shack in the garage tonight and I'll set the flasher to demo mode and I'll just pretend fish lol.

I am going to say that last night would have helped a lot with the making of ice. When I was leaving jack fish lake yesterday the temps were -10C at 3pm I started the day with -3C. The ice was popping and groaning. I would say their should be 5" were I was fishing which is plenty for walking. I basically stopped were their was a seam in the ice and on the other side it was no more then 3 inches.

That wasn't open water the guy put his foot through on that other lake. That was one of HuyFishin's sight fishing holes.

I didn't realize Huy used such a small sight fishing hole. I guess he is looking out for everyone's safety

So your saying that hole is only the size of the heel that broke through and the rest of that grey cloud around it is safe?

no the ice for about 3 feet around it was not safe. If I hit it hard enough I wold have put my spud bar through. were I was standing was 5 inches of ice 3.5 inches of clear black ice and 1.5 of white ice. I checked the ice thickness every ten steps and I hit the ice as hard as I could every step hence why it sounded like I was out of breath.

Yeah it's good to warn people about that. Grey pools under the snow are no go zones at any time of the year.
