Back bays are starting to freeze over but it will be some time with these warm temps to hit the big water and make it safe.

Whatever you do don’t go to the provincial park campground boat launch as the steep hill and solid ice road has vehicles stuck and in the ditch. You can’t get back up the hill. I contacted parks and asked them to lay a bunch of sand down or close the road down up at the boat trailer parking lot.
What a mess as the road gets little to no daylight and with the rain we had she is slick!!!

I hope we get an early deep freeze this year. Week-10 days of -20 highs would be perfect

Likely only one good trip in March this year so going to be a long wait. Hope to hit a few new spots marked in summer and maybe do a little more searching for species other than lakers as well.

Was out at French bay today checking things out and right off the boat launch a little more into “pike bay” was a jeep siting on ice 30 yards off shore.
Not sure how thick the ice was but there is a stream that flows from the swamp and I know the ice can be sketchy especially this early.

Be careful folks!

Not much happening out there regarding the bigger bodies of water as we got warm again and sunny.

We need a cold snap of a week or two.

French bay has a little bit of ice forming off the ski hill but I think that broke off near the launch and the wind blew it over there.

14 day forecast looks very promising.

Just be careful as we are having a lot of snow fall that may cover up suspect ice, temps will dip here shortly but that blanket of snow will insulate the ice below which is only walkable in the back bays but not in areas heading out to the open water.

I wish we didn’t get the snow and just hit a deep freeze first.

We just got a blanket here before it got to good cold. Looking at your forecast there's a lot of snow coming.

Lake is loosing the battle of retaining heat!
Really cool to see the steam rising up to form a cloud overtop of the lake!
-21 and clear skies!
Hope this continues with no more snowfall to make safe ice.

French bay is freezing over nicely!
2/3rds but far from safe for walking on out too far.
Another week of these temps will help.

Not that I am aware of for lakers as the deeper more open parts are just starting to freeze over.

French bay just in front of the launch area I see tracks and saw one fella out probably after perch/pike.

Looking from cold lake north out across the largest body of water.

Looks promising and the temps are perfect for making good safe ice!

Cold lake provincial park boat launch looking out over centre bay towards garnet.

Boat launch has ice pushed up against it so hopefully we get some snow after freeze up so we can drive straight on the ice.
