Robinson Arms XCR-L 223
Just wondering if any of you have any experience with the XCR-L. I bought one thinking it might be a good alternative to an AR for a non restricted semi auto coyote gun. I mounted a 3-9x40 Leupold on it and sighted it in for a 200 yd zero. I was shooting federal premium 55 gr. Ammo and I'm sure my 12 gauge could probably shoot a better group. One thing I can say is it sure is consistent. I shot 5 five shot groups, all were in that 61/2"-71/4" range. My AR with the same ammo will easily do 21/2" groups at 200. I will be taking it back today.

I would not judge the rifle, based on one load.

I would definitely try a couple different types of brands of ammo before you take it back. I have seen some of my guns go from under a 1" group at 100 yards to almost 4" or 5" groups just by changing ammo.

Sounds like you got one of the few broken ones. I'll buy it off you - at a discount though as it's 'broken'
heh heh.

Took it back to Cabelas today. They tried to tell me that 55 gr bullets were to light for a 1-9 twist. I called bs. They said I needed to try heavier bullets so they gave me a box of Hornady 75 gr BTSP and a box of nosler custom match 62 gr. I also bought a box of 69 gr nosler ballistic tip and some 55 gr American eagle FMJ. They said to bring in the target after I try the different ammo and if it still doesn't shoot they will give me a different gun or an instore credit but they won't give me my money back.

Check the barrel for rifling....no BS some rifles have been found to not have rifling....
Also whoever told you a 55gr bullet is too light for a 1 in 9 twist should be sent to the fudge shop cause they know little about firearms.

Ya Lefty I couldn't believe when they were telling me 55 gr were too light. I started to argue but could see it wasn't going to help. I cleaned and it definitely has rifling.

The same people that told you that probably think a 1 in 14 is faster than a 1 in 9 cause the number is bigger

That's about the size of it. I bought this thing, thought it might be a fun coyote gun. Well the coyotes should be pretty safe if I can't get it shooting better than 6-7".

Xcr
I picked up my XCR in November & it was around 3.5-4 inch groups at 100yrds for the first few groups that I tried on paper.
I stopped shooting groups & settled on following the break in recommended by Robinson arms... gas setting on 4.
The trigger slap was noticeable & groups showed it.
After I was satisfied that the gas system was worked in, I run it on setting 2 & now have 320 rounds through it.
With American eagle & PMC Bronze 55gr I am now getting groups in the 1.5-2inch range @ 100yrds with the 3-9 scope I have mounted, when I really concentrate on shooting a group.
Tried a few boxes of Hornady 55gr Zmax Zombie ammo that was a gag gift I got for Christmas & was getting nice tight clusters @ 100 yrds. no measurement on the groups but probably average around an inch or so.

The manual says to leave the gas setting on 4 for the first 40-50 rounds and to run the action really wet for break in. I did all that. After 50 rounds I started playing with the gas valve but really couldn't notice any difference between the settings. One thing I like about it is how clean they run compared to an AR.

Xcr-l.223
I bought my XCR-L.223 about 6 months ago and it is literally the most accurate, and by far the coolest rifle I have ever owned...
All my friends who ive let shoot it agree as well. I would even go so far as to put my XCR-L up against almost any AR-15 out there, and know it will do a better job. As far as youre complaints about it, they really dont hold water my friend. Especially if youre just using to plink coyotes??? Lol... ive killed a dozen coyotes and when I hit them with a round of .223 they stay dead. A couple of course got hit in the mid or rear end section and were still up and moving, but they did not get far once I readjusted and put another one in their neck.
One of the best non-restricted rifles you can buy in canada.

Check the barrel hold down screw, make sure it is seated properly.
Then check your gas regulator/tube make sure it is not gummed up and that it is seated properly.
Then check your bolt and chamber face, make sure the bolt moves freely.
Also check your flash suppressor and make sure it is tight.
Check your upper and lower receiver for play side to side and up and down.
Inspect your barrel for deformaties.

With my XCR-M Iam lucky to a 11x17 plate 1 in 5 shots at 400 yards, not what I was expecting from a $2500 rifle.

I agree with you Wally. My XCR L, with the cheap American eagle 55 FMJ is terrible. If I feed it a diet of nosler custom or Hornady match it will shoot significantly better but that gets expensive. If it was legal to shoot coyotes with the AR the XCR L would be gone in a heartbeat.

I shoot an easy 1 inch group @ 50 yards with norinco and American eagle using an eotech holo sight. About a 2-3 inch group at 100 - again with a holosight. for a plinker, gopher gun and coyote hunter shes just fine. if I wanted precision I would use a bolt action. for a non restricted black gun in 5.56, the XCR cannot be beat (I have never shot a Tavor though...)

I forgot to mention I was using my S&B PMII 3-20x50 for the test, so the optic was not a limiting factor.

Worst Purchase ever! Absolutley love the gun, shoots great, fun to play around with, very accurate for a black rifle. But with 4 little monsters running around and 2 of them learning and getting my full attention with the pellets, 22's and shooties. I never get to shoot the darn thing! So after the break in period it went in the safe and has yet to leave! So now I all I hear from the wife is why are you buying more guns, when you don't even shoot the "ARMY" gun, and for gods sake stop buying more crap for it!
Horrible purchase!

First a little disclaimer, I Love My XCR & I also Love the AR platform if the AR was non restricted that would be great....but that hasn't happened yet.
I have been able to shoot my XCR-L along with a friends DPMS AR 15 and we have done some accuracy comparisons @ 100yrds and out to 425. Neither one of us is a master at bench rest technique so take this for what its worth, but between the 2 rifles at any of the ranges between 100 & 425 yards groups were basically the same.
My XCR will shoot "Good" Ammo into a 1" group at 100 yrds consistently.
The AR 15 does about the same.
We fed both rifles Hornady TAP ammo & both guns were capable of 1' @ 100yrds no problems.
The XCR will shoot PMC bronze 55gr around the 1" mark, the AR was opening up closer to 2" with it.
The AR 15 showed a preference for Federal AR black box 55 grain, My XCR doesn't group well with that ammo at all.
Heres the biggest suprise... Cheap Norinco 55gr 5.56 ammo was the best for accuracy out of both rifles.
I am surprised at how many guys buy an XCR & think they should be getting a sub MOA rifle, or compare it to a bolt gun that they only feed handloads, & premium ammo. Most people who compare their XCR to an AR 15 are pleasantly surprised with the accuracy you'll get.
And hey, I can take My XCR out & use it where the AR 15 can't come!

I wasnt expecting the XCR to match my TRG for accuracy but I was expecting 1moa or at the very least 1.5 moa. A 11x17 plate is a large target at 400 yds and any decent gun should be capable of hitting at least 4 out of 5 shots.

Out of all my rifles I like the XCR L the least, it's heavy, only shoots if you feed it a premium diet, occasionally get FTE. It is piston driven so it does stay cleaner than my AR but for what you pay for these rifles I think they are a disappointment.

Xcr-l.223
Gotta just say that I love my XCR-L. Was running PMC Bronze 55 Grs. .223's through it with no problem at all. Barely had to clean it even, went through 2000 rounds with no problem.
Switched to MFS .223 Rem SP 62 gr rounds with the soft lead head, and my beloved XCR-L jammed after 100 rounds of this **** ammo. Would not fire after round was cleared until I cleaned the whole gun with frog lube.
Bottom line, you are right when you say this gun will not eat cheap ammo. Stick with pure bronze and youll be fine. But as stated, that does get expensive.

If it was jamming, did you try adjusting the gas system? My complaint is about accuracy not reliability.

All I have to say is get into hand loading for the XCR. I'm ringing 10" steel at 600 yards all day long with a 10x scope. My load is 69gr BTHP SMK's backed with 24.5gr of BLC-2. 2.270" OAL. By no means is this an extremely fast round for coyotes but it does work on them. I'm hoping the 53gr vmax will turn out some good results in the future.

I shoot the cheap bulk ammo that is 55gr and it shoots sub MOA, fun gun to shoot but a little heavy for packing around calling coyotes. But a good alternative to the R-15 for sure.
