Default 45 power for sheep

I am looking at upgradeing my spotting scope which was a 60 power with decent optics. There is some nice lightweight scopes at 45 power with real good glass. My question is... will 45 power be enough for sheep?

Yes....45 power is 'enough' for sheep and will serve you well. I'm personally a fan of 60 power but there are times with heat waves, mirage, etc that 45x is all a person can realistically use anyways.

60 power is obviously nicer for some applications, but plenty a good sheep guide has carried a 45x for several years and they will do the job needed.

If you're USED to having 60 power you may wish you had it if you step back to a 45x.....cant really comment on personal needs, etc

I hunted sheep for years with a 30X and 45X spotter. Couple years back I switched to a 60X and will never look back.

Like Rack mentions, you can certainly hunt sheep with much lower magnifications. If you are buying a scope that will last a lifetime, I would definitely recommend something like a 20-60X variable.

Personally I wouldn't put anything less than a 60x in my pack.
