Puma Knife Authenticity
I'm looking at getting a Puma fixed blade skinner:
But I have heard in recent years that there are a number of other companies producing knives under the Puma name in other countries that are not the same quality. So my question is, how do you tell if the knife is an authentic Puma?
Are these authentic because they say made in germany on the blade?
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Puma-Skinner-...item1c23d4044a

Also, is there any downside to buying a knife on ebay, besides the fact that you can't hold it beforehand?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was told to look at the studs holding the handle to the blade. Bad part is, it was a while back and I forgot what to look for. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but it's a starting point to look into I guess.

Call Keith Rice from dreamscape outdoors. He sells puma knives and he knows quite a bit about them. His number is 780-222-1041

Puma launched a new line of knives last year, the SGB. While they utilize the same steel in their blades, the handles are not genuine stag horn. Still a great knife but much less expensive. Just be sure you know what you are buying.

I don't think you get a leather case with the new puma knives either.

I have one from the early 80's, genuine.
I would value it at near $200.

From research, the internet and hearsay the actual blade is still made by puma but other components are outsourced.

blades are made in Germany, but assembled in china. stag handles are now being made from farmed deers antlers in china. fit and finish are not the same as it was 20 years ago when they were completely made in germany but still a great knife.

I have Puma white hunter 3 y old paid about 100$. Says made in Germany but it is POS in my opinion.
Bellero might be expert on Puma as he sells lots of them on CGN and here.
Old ones were made out of Pumamaster Steel, now who knows.

$100 for a $400 knife, I'd be questioning the authenticity of it.
