Default Policemans Flat Fishing

So I have been going down to policemans to try and catch a fish on my new fly fishing gear (brand new to the sport, only one brookie on Jumping Pound creek thus far). The thing is I can see all these decent size trout swimming just feet from shore and I can not figure out how to catch them. I have thrown almost every type of fly in my arsenal at them with nothing to show. As a matter of fact I had a SJW bounce right off the fish's forhead. Does anyone have any advice for me on what to do to actually get one of these guys to bite? I would really appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance.

Those are spawning browns, please leave them alone if you can but legally you are allowed to catch them. Swinging big black leech patterns in black, olive and white all work but if your nymphing you need a drag free drift to get the trout to bite. Set a indicator about 10 feet up from your Sjw and a trailing pt nymph and have a long drift staying low and behind it if you can

Yep, those are browns on their redds spawning right now. They're not interested in feeding, any hits you'd get would just be out of aggression protecting their redds. I'd advise leaving them to do their thing as well.
