Default opinions wanted

Picked up a 257 weatherby, and can't decided on which scope to put on it.
Narrowed down to a Leoupold vx3 4.5 x14 or a Ziess conquest 4.5 x14.
Any suggestions????

I'd go back a step to the VX-3 3.5-10X40.

I got the VX3 4.5-14x50 no complaints, very nice and good in low light. That being said my buddie has the ziess and it is also very nice. I choose the vx3 and got m1 turrets installed on it. Just an idea but ziess has the rapid-Z retical and it works like a hot dam. Ether way you will do fine.

Default Zeiss

Both middle of the road scopes. The zeiss has a better eyepiece focus. If you loosen off the focus lock on the leupold, you will notice that the reticle moves around when you wiggle it side to side, so whats that tell you?

Leupold all the way. I love all mine and if you have a problem you can get it fixed and back in a couple weeks.

Another vote for the 3.5-10, my favorite of the VX3 line.

Nothing compares to the german glass.Dollar for dollar, the conquest line is the best bang for your buck. I find it concerning when one of the top selling features of a leupold is that warranty work is done right here in Alberta. Sounds like warranty work will be needed after purchase.

Ziess has there share of warranty work also. But there glass is a tiny bit better. To the average hunter hard to tell. I just wasn't a fan of there turrets. But to each his own.

depends on what your planning to hunt on a deer hunting rifle there isnt much need for 14X those high zoom scopes are better used for target and small preditor hunting. when in the store ask to take it outside and look at something similar size and distance that you plan to hunt and see how long it takes you to find it you shouldnt ever need more than 10x

VX3 in 4.5-14 x40. Very nice compact scope. Will balance better than the 50mm one.

that tells me that you are seeing an illusion much the same as the bending steel rod when you wiggle it between your fingers. it also tells me that you believe you need to spend over 2k for anything good. they are middle of the road in price yes, but to say that the scopes that cost 3 times as much are 3 times as good is hogwash. you cant go wrong with either choice.
