Default Bullshead

Got to Bullshead early this am, didnt hear about the wind warning, loaded the pontoon, fished on the east side of the lake, sheltered by the west wind, best day Ive ever had there a bunch on Boatman, hares ears and chironamids, will post pics when I get back to town on Wed, had a hard time getting back to the dock, wind was brutal, but got it done, fished from shore and it was good also, it shut down around noon , then picked up again around 2. Lots of 18 to 19 inche fish, and one at 23 inches. Great fun, I didnt wear my waders as it was quite warm, so i just wore my korkers with bare feet, when i went to leaveand took of my boot there was a huge leech stuck on my foot, thought it was a piece of mud, but as i picked it up it was alive, pretty grossed out, will wear my waders tommorow.

Ewww I have a phobia of leeches! Didn't have any luck at Bullshead weekend before last but got over to Reesor and did well. Lots of small 8-10" rainbows on the fly.

Yes very nice bows! It's great it's a trophy trout lake! The "put and take" ones are great too especially for kids but its nice to have a variety. We drove all the way from Calgary to fish Bullshead and check out Cypress Hills. I also saw many pronghorn on the way which, for me, are more novel and interesting then the sheep, elk and moose that I see a lot.

Plan to fish Spruce Coulee and Elkwater as well eventually. Spruce Coulee was still frozen 2 weeks ago but looks nice for a float tube.

Nice fish, and you're braver than I am. The wind was too much for my liking.
Being from the Hat I frequent the waters mentioned in this thread. Bullshead is full of 16"-20" this year. I've seen many of them chasing food 3 feet from shore, they're everywhere.
Reesor is always full of little 'bows and it is heavily harvested, also has tons of suckers in it.
Spruce was better early last year, but SRD gill netted it to check for walleye population and the fishing has suffered drastically since. Suppose to be a Brookie lake and for the most part is. It will take 2-3 years minimum before it's back to what it was. But yes, it is and excellent lake for tubes.
Elkwater is pike and perch, jumbo perch, if you can find them. Pike are small and can be caught anywhere with just about anything.

Just thought I'd share.

That will be the last time I load the pontoon on Bullshead unless I invest in an electric motor for it. One of my favourite places to fish.

Being from Medicine Hat I'm the complete opposite, I prefer to see elk and moose over pronghorns hahaha.

I hunt elk with some guys that live in the rockies and they're like yourself, they love coming to the prairies to hunt Pronghorn. I guess whatever is not as familiar to you seems more interesting

Nice trout....congrats! That trout looks a little pale in comparison to what I'm used to catching and I was wondering if they all look like that in Bullshead? Nothing wrong with it, I'm just wondering.
