Default Kestrel wind meters

I'm just curious as to what models you guys use? I am looking at the 2000 but I've heard the 2500 is worth the extra money? I just need the basics for balistics calculations, nothing special.

Where are you planning on getting these?
I'm wanting the construction version for work.

Wind meters are another of those things that everyone seems to need these days to shoot long range, but are one of the things that should be considered a luxury and not something essential to good shooting .
It all depends on who you talk to about them.

+1-And a person needs to keep in mind, that in many situations, the wind isn't constant all the way to the target. A wind meter gives you reading at one point, but you have to estimate the wind all the way to the target.

I'll just stick to waiting 30 minutes for wind to stop between shots I'm a patient boy.

Or you could attempt to learn to use mirage, or watch grass or leaves, to estimate wind at various points, on the way to the target. It isn't an exact science, but with practice, it can certainly help a person to better place his shots, when shooting in the wind.
I am not saying that a wind meter isn't of any use, but rather that it doesn't make long range precision shooting as simple as some people want to believe.

I bought a cheap wind meter at my local New Holland dealer. I believe it is a Greenleaf. It shows wind, humidity, temp, and dew point. It also shows elevation but I don't think it's very accurate. As I recall I paid around $125. Like cat and elk said it is not nearly as useful as one is led to believe by the tv experts.
