And I always figured Alberta roads and rock chips went hand in hand.

How'd you manage that? Alberta winters don't exactly treat vehicles well...

How big a chip are we talking here? Because on my car (2006) if you penetrate the topcoat, there's still a rust resistant undercoat. The dealer could have just fixed it with one of those paint markers.

In this neck of the woods, seeing a car without a paint chip is like seeing God

So did you get it even cheaper at the second dealership? You should have, given you could get a new replacement for the original price at the first dealership in 14 days.

I said get me one from a different dealer. He said that would cost money and they were already too skinny on the deal.

I made him tear up the deal and went to a different dealership.

My wife thought I was being harsh.

How many of you would have accepted that?
I would have done the same...new is new, not new with touch ups. If that was the case I would have had them knock a few grand off....that paint could have bubbled with rust within the next year or two and then what? I wonder if the dealer would make it right 2 years from now.....probably would tell you that was wear and tear and not covered.

That depends if it was painted with Dulux 2 or not, you could beat the fender off a car and that stuff wouldn't crack.

Its up to the dealership to present you a fully inspected and detailed new vehicle. Thats what the predelivery charges are for. Anything less is unacceptable. Demand what you pay for.

I walked away from a very similar situation the worst part was the vehicle had an additional 150ish km on it from the day the sale was written up. They were test driving it after I had inked a deal. Never darkened their door ever again.

A brand-new vehicle depreciates by $ten thou or more the moment we take possession. For that kind of hit, the damn thing had better be as near perfect as the marketing implies it is.

Sure, a few months down the road it will have a few chips (maybe even a ding or two) but till then I want to enjoy that new-truck feeling I paid dearly for.

Personally I think you did the right thing. These dealerships forget that we are real people and work damn hard for our money. $40,000 isn't just a lump-sum of money thats just sitting around to spend on a car............

That was exactly my point. I didn't feel like a new vehicle that had to be fixed.

Alberta Honda did right by me. Painless, low-key purchase.

I would have told them to fix it, and then I would look at it. If it passed my inspection - no problem, if it failed - deal is off. It was a paint chip. Drive it down a 100 kms. of gravel and it will probably have just as many chips.

In 10 years it won't see 100km of gravel.

I have spent over $100k at Go Auto in the last 12 months and will be back again. I had exemplary service before and after I signed the papers. Both vehicles were priced below what I would have paid elsewhere.

Remember this; they are there to sell a vehicle and I am there to buy a vehicle. A lot of people forget this and let their emotions get in the way.
