Default scope mount for Cooey Mod.600 rifle?

I've a Winchester Cooey Model 600 (22LR), the tubular magazine 1970s era plinker, and am considering mounting a scope onto it. There are 4 drilled/tapped holes on the left side of the receiver.

Do you guys know if a side-mount bracket is still available for this rifle? Would the scope sit on top, or to the side? There is nothing in the current Russels catalogue.

If you own(ed) this particular model and had it scoped, I am interested in knowing how it groups(ed) for you and at what range. I know that most boxes of .22 ammo - the plinking stuff - has its share of 'flyers', but approximate group size would be fun to know.

Right now, my eyes through iron sights make it more of a shotgun than a rifle. It used to be a deadly groundhog rifle, then was put to sleep for 20 years... I figure the barrel and action are half decent, so a cheap scope might be enough to revive it. As you know, Dick284 has a postal match coming up and I want to be competitive. Kidding.

i just put a scope on my model 600 (bought in the 70's ) and it had grooves cut on top of the receiver(bought it that way). You can buy an inexpensive scope that comes with weaver style rings and just tighten the scope down on the grooves. I laser bore sighted it and sighted it in for dead-on at 50 yards and am shooting 3/4 inch groups consistently. Not bad for an old cheap .22.

My guess is you need the Weaver #2 Side mount - Weaver part # 48402. You will also need side mount rings such as Weaver part #49350.

At the Weaver site you can find these at this link:

http://www.weaver-mounts.com/product...eTopMount.aspx

If you download the catalogue you can find the models which fit. Here are some photos from a US site. You can get the rings and base at Wholesale Sports in Edmonton. $32 for the rings, and $16 for the base. Then of course you need a 1" dia scope. They have a web site.

This said, I recall my father having this style of mount which used the smaller .22 size sope. Didn't see these in my quick look.

Thank you very much to all of you.

Didn't realize the 600 was later improved with top-groove mounting - must really help in the looks dept.

Pretty cool that Weaver still makes parts for this old rifle which I believe was only sold in Canada. Cooey must have sold tens of thousands...no wonder, with 3/4" groups at 50yds.

I have the exact same Cooey model 600 and had the same problem with mounting the scope, 20 years ago. I don't know what the scope mount is called but it does say N2 on the left side. The 4 flush (if I recall) screws will come out and will need to be replace with the 4 flat screws that go through the metal mount. This same piece will come up, and fork with two pieces, curve to the right, in a half moon. In each of these two half moon pieces, there will be 4 holes in each to allow for a companion flange to hold the scope into place. The scope I have is a 3/4" tube, but the team has shot many of 1000's of gophers. This was my 1st gun I was in grade 5 or 6 when i got it and my most sacred, as this is the one I learned to shoot with. Like I told a coworker, I could trade any of my guns off, but not this one. Does yours have a rabbit in the stock?

Do you want pictures?

Paul

Yeah, it has a jackrabbit on the grip. For a basic rifle, they are pretty sweet shooting aren't they. I liked the half-decent trigger - not too heavy a pull. The iron sights are not much good though, but I was young and made do. The groundhogs (huge compared to PDs or ground squirrels) did not know the difference.

I'd be glad to see some pictures; a close-up of your scope mount would be helpful.

Thanks.

Don't waste your time and money on the cheap 3/4" or older 7/8" scopes.A 1" 4x Bushnell or something similar works fine.Use the weaver side mt and 1" rings it's the same setup used on the old Sav 340[got one of those too]They will shoot with the best of them price be damned! I love mine..........Harold

Have the exact model, side mount weaver scope rings and an old weaver scope, groups 3/8 at 25 yard. Pop cans no problem at 100 yards. Its a sweet old gun, Outshoots my remington target 22. Not bad for an old gopher gun

Default 60 or 600

Hey is there any real difference between a mod 60 and a mod 600? They look like the same rifle for most purposes. I am looking for a replacement stock for my Mod 60. Would a 600 stock fit? Does anyone know how I can find a replacement?
