My 2019 Ram
My youngest son and I found this ram mid-July and never seen him again up until the day before opener. I managed to harvest him on the third day of the season as opening day was very eventful with a run in with a grizzly bear that my hunting partner and I just about stepped on him while going through a berry patch. We made a plan for day 2. We took a different route in hoping not to have another run in with the grizzly. We got in to where the Rams were and couldn't get a shot at him so the decision was made to sleep on the mountain. It'sa good thing it was warm out as we has 1 sandwich each, a couple of granola bars and a bottle and a half of water each. My buddy had a couple of extra sweaters a
large garbage bags that we managed to keep warm with over night curled up in 3 very small pine trees on a very steep mountain in amongst 5 ewes and 1 small half curl ram. It was a very long night my buddy was worried that the ram wouldn't be there in the morning with my snoring. During the night we could hear the ewes moving around and the elk way below us were bugling all night long. Day 3 we got up early had our sandwich and some water. 7:00 am rolled around I got peaked over a little shelf and found the ram out feeding my buddy gets up beside me and ranges the ram and I get set up and I ask him if that's the ram for sure and he confirms. I put a round in my .270 Remington Titanium and send a round out to the ram and I was just under him. As I was loading another round the ewes and the small ram that were around us all bolted and we just about got trampled by them as they had no clue we were there. I steadied again as the big boy never moved to far. I sent the second round at him and it was a solid hit. I had to send a third round at him and then he committed suicide as he jumped off the ledge he was on. Then the work started. He is my biggest ram to date.

I don’t know much about sheep but I can tell he’s got a ton of mass and a good curl. Congrats on a great ram!
I bet the snoring was twice as loud on the night of day 3!!!

Thanks for all the replies, the grizzly was a real surprise. With the wind behind his back I think this was the reason he didn’t hear us. It was literally feet from the encounter. He didn’t even hear us scrambling out of there. This is not the first time we slept on the mountain to harvest a sheep. Usually I carry a small tarp, but for some reason I must have taken it out of my pack. Any takers on guessing a score. He was officially scored after the 60 day dry period.

Before. The after repair score is actually less.
