Smile Heading to Maligne Lake!!!

The Magic 8 Ball says a trip to Maligne may be coming up in a couple weeks.
Didn't think I was gonna get a trip up there this fall, but my buddy's usual partner can't make it; I'm happy to fill his spot in the canoe! Just waiting to hear that our spot is booked at Coronet Creek. The plan is to get an early start & spend the whole day fishing our way up 22 kilometers of lake to the campground at the far end, spend two nights, & fish our way back on the third day; praying for decent weather.
Can't wait to see that lake again...

The next 2 weeks are going to drag on so slowly....

Good luck up there! The brookies should have their spawning colors on for you, and just for you alone

I got my eye on Medicine. Problem is, I'm not so sure it will be low enough to fish for awhile. Let me know how it looks if you get up there. When I was there in early July it had blown the banks and the parking lot at the end of Medicine....along will all the others, was underwater and pretty much a river. The section where it is underground became a new above ground river. Now that!....is a lot of water.

Cheers

The canoe is an 18ft cedar strip from the 1950's or 1960's. My buddy put a lot of work into it, including a fiberglass coating. She's a beauty; most stable canoe I've ever set foot in. Of course, having lots of weight in the bottom helps with the stability; he carries 8 batteries at all times.

Yeah, it might be October before it's you can wade to the river channel!

I'll bet it didn't look like this in July!

19" Medicine Lake brookie...

I will let you know how Medicine looks, for sure...

Just talked to my buddy; we're booked in at Coronet Creek campground for the 20th & 21st.
Now, the bad news- he had just talked to his friend in Jasper, who told him he didn't think you'd be wading to the river channel on Medicine at all this year. Hopefully, he's wrong...

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. Think about water going over that edge. That is like another 60 FOW on top of the usual 30 or so. That is a lot of water to make "disappear". I'll hold out until the final weekend if I can.

Good luck on you trip man! That is something to get excited about. Best of luck.

I guess you could fish the channel from a boat/pontoon/canoe if you had to???

I have a feeling the next 2 weeks are gonna drag by...
I've been wanting to do this trip for a few years now; my brother went for a wknd a few years ago & loved it! Better believe I'm excited!

Was up at Maligne the week before last. Medicine is now down to where it would normally be by July in a typical year. Doubtful for wadding this year IMHO. Perhaps by the end of Sept if one is lucky.

Rock/Mud slides they had there in late July early August we quite impressive to look at.
