Default Chain Lakes Reservoir

Anybody ever had any luck at Chain Lakes (Longview) in open water this time of year?

It's not listed because there are no specific regulations for it.... it falls under the general regulations. It's your typical put and take fishery.

So there is no open or closure dates attached to it?
What about fish species found there?

I've only been fishing for 3 years now and learning as I go and the forum has been a great resource for me. The more I can learn the better I can educate my young one on the "Sport".

kujo, for Chain Lakes in ES1 see page 8 of the 2013 regulations. It is open year round, limit of 5 Rainbow trout only & no bait fish allowed.

There are suckers & Bull trout in there also, but Bulls are protected so do not keep them (warning sign at entrance of park). This body of water is really a great place for kids to get hooked into fishing.

Used to fish it hardwater all the time. Didn't last year though. One year we ice fished it in april and caught 21 fish between 2 of us in about 4 hours. It can be a heck of a fishery some days if u catch it right. Lately haven't had too much there. Just wondering if anyone fishes it right after ice off.

I have foud that Chain is usually not great fishing in the spring. Wait for the water to clear up a bit. Probably sometime in May will be better.

When you do go out there though try using a bead head green or black leech in size 12 to 8. I have had lots of success out there on both colors.

The water level is usually low in the spring and below the level of the ramp. Unless you are able to carry a boat, wait for the water level to come up. The boat trailer will sink into the mud at the end of the ramp and is very hard to pull out, once it is stuck.

Never have seen it that low and I have fished it the last 10 years with my boat.

Usually pretty murky till mid to late June but still fishable.

I was ice fishing there yesterday (saturday). There is still 14 to 15" of good ice 100 to 150 yards out, edges of lake still frozen except for one small hole. A little spooky, just followed the tracks already in the snow (maybe 1.5") there was on lake. Did notice a bit of "open water" across the lake near the south dam but not much. Danger unsafe ice signs posted at parking lot, use caution. Unless you have an icebreaker, you won't go too far with a boat.
