Default cactus buck

Any one know what causes this sort of major antler deformity? I've heard that a deer like this could be sterile. Sure is different. Ive got a few good pics like this one of this old guy.

Default more growth

Based on the fabt that picture is taken in May by the date on the pic there is stilla lot of growing left to do. I know of a deer shot near Lac la Biche that would almost fit the bill for a few more months of growth. I'll try to get the pics.

To clear some confusion, that pic was taken in mid august. It is one of the older style cameras and the numbers reflect the time the pic was taken (24 hour clock). He was done growing by then. On another note, post the pics of the deer from La Biche. We always need to see more deer.

I remember an article in a magazine regarding cactus bucks in the states. I think it was trophy hunter magazine. There explanation for this abnormality was castration at an early age. as a result there antlers never came out of velvet and they had points coming out everywhere. In the article they mentioned that I believe it was arizona has a bunch of these running around and they are not sure why they are so common there.

This is the first one in my life that I have seen I feel pretty fortunate to have a few trail cam picks of him. My shed hunting buddy picked up a busted part of his rack in the spring of 07. It is really odd looking bone upclose. It has all sorts of porous spots in it??
