Wyoming Field Saw
I have one of the vintage leather sheath ones I will sell here in Calgary; (pick up only).
I have sent out a couple of notices to members in this thread. If I get crickets, then I will list it.

The complaint I've heard on the Gerber Vital pack saw, is that the blade length is very short. I read somewhere that it's only 2.5" Does anyone know if the newer Gerber XO-MOD version has a longer blade?

I think mine is the older version- it’s over 4” long. From the looks of it, the EXO-MOD version is similar in length.
Works great for trimming branches in the stand as well.

I have had a coghlan's sierra saw hanging on my belt for 35 years or more and have never felt the need for anything else, put a new blade on it about 10 years ago.

I bought the Silky Saw an the recommendation of this thread - I am pleased with it.
No comparison to the cheaper Gerber and Coghlan's saws (I have had both).
Well built and super sharp. Easy to disassemble and clean.
Good for rib cage, pelvis, tree stand pruning, survival, etc.

I’ve got a silky I use for wood and it cuts like a demon. I’ve never considered cutting bone with it but then I only cut bone when taking the skull plate off and I do that at home with a chainsaw.

Field Saw story;
When I am out hunting and fishing I always carry the above knife in case I ever need one.
So I am out hunting and got to wondering; if I was ever in a position, would this tool could actually get me out of a bind and actually rely on it, if needed?
So this year I harvest a deer and I pulled the SAK out of my pack and I used it for everything from dressing the deer out, to cutting off the legs, cutting the pelvis and head with the enclosed saw.
To my amazement, I completed the whole deer including skinning.
I will say the bone cutting took its toll on the saw and of course the blade dulled somewhat. I never touched up the blade during the process.
So, as a "one-time" use tool it worked.
Now I know I have superior gear for this activity, but I just had to satisfy my curiosity.....

My Wyoming saw ( leather case) is from the early 80's as well. used it dozens of times. On my second or third blade and always carry a spare.
Bit of a knuckle buster on elk and moose but beats the hell out of the old hatchet and axe technique.

Milwaukee folding saw
I got the Milwaukee folding saw that uses the same blades as the sawzall. Used a demolition blade and it worked great. Uses 6" blades which I find sufficient. And of course you can easily replace the blade or use different style of blades.

Wyoming. Hands down. There’s a reason guys are still using the same one after 20-30 years. No plastic junk. I believe you can buy 2 sizes as well.

The best backpack saw is no saw at all.
