This why Saskatchewan is so far ahead of Alberta with bigger deer. They only have mule deer for residents to hunt and they manage the whitetail deer way better than Alberta. This is just a start to eliminating non-residents from other provinces in Canada from hunting whitetail deer in Saskatchewan. I know that I love going to Saskatchewan pursuing the big whitetails but looks like this is coming to an end soon.

Default Sask. Draw

I was received an email the other day from a guy with Sask. Environment and this is what he sent me:

There will be a website press release (www.environment@gov.sk.ca) coming
out but here are the details as we have them

* All Canadian resident white-tailed deer hunters must apply for
their licence in 2011
* Applicants must select one wildlife management zone and will be
awarded a licence for that zone
* There will be no priority pool system or no quotas for 2011
* Only on-line applications will be accepted- no paper or phone
applications
* Up to four hunters will be able to apply on one application, but
an individual hunter can only apply once
* We expect the season dates to remain unchanged
* The on-line draw will open May 1 and close May 31
* Licence cost will be $137.38 plus the $4.00 application fee
* Licences will be mailed prior to Aug. 1, 2011

So basically this change will require all Can. Residents to apply for
the on-line draw either sex white-tailed deer licence and be required to
chose / hunt in only one zone. The Branch will get an exact record of
hunters per zone.

Thank you for your interest.

I do not agree with this statement. Any Sask resident can purchase a license, it is limited only by age. There is not a limit to the number of non-residents that can come in and purchase a license, but there are zones they cannot hunt in. There is no limit on non-resident canadians or the zones they can hunt in. How is this better management?

i agree sask doing ****ty job managing whitetaildeer but you are wrong about the #of non res of canada they have to be guided by lic. outfitter. Outfitters are only alocated aprox 8 hunters per alocated township of land on licence.

You should read the regs ....non resident canadians have never needed an outfitter to hunt whitetail. I have hunted in saskatchewan many times as have many others on this site. You buy a tag over the counter and go hunting.

The draw being implemented is to help control the increasing numbers of non resident canadian hunters going to sask every year.nothing more nothing less.

The main reason for this is going to be to spread the non-resident hunters out to more zones. At present the zones along the two borders are getting to much hunting pressure while other zones within the province see little non-resident hunting. The way it sits now there are no limits to the number of hunters for whitetail in a zone.

There is no limit on non-residents, only the zones they can hunt in. Yes you are right, they must use a guide.

You better read the regs again. You can buy a tag over the counter but a non-resident must use a guide.

There seems to be a communication break down here.

some guys are saying "non resident canadians" which means of course canadians from other provinces who are not residents of Sask.

And "non res of canada" or simply "non resident"

Which means hunters who do not live in Canada and so they are non residents of Sask. and Canada.

Hey TUC do you have a spare bunk at your place in P.P. Sask. ??? I may have to go deeper into Sask. the next time I want to extend my white-tail hunting.

My bad read on the above. Non-residents need the guide, not non-resident Canadians.
