Default Trappers Licence

Just a question to anybody who readily knows, is having a Manitoba trappers education course any help at all to being able to trap and snare in AB? Or does a guy need to take the whole course over again?
Thanks folks,
S2F

I'm sure you can challenge the test at any F&W office.

I challenged the test a couple weeks back. Took ten minutes. It was simple.

I think it would be just like hunting; if you were licensed in another province your good to go here too.

Sorry, but you are NOT good to go.. Like any other gov't regulated operation---You need the paper work, so just go and challenge the test if you have the experience..
And to all of us trapppers who are equally challenged, one way or the other....
HAPPY NEW YEARS to all of you........

When I went to get my Alberta license, they told me if I could produce my old Sask. license that I would be good to go. However, the last time I held a trapping license was 1987 & I knew I would never find it. So I challenged on the spot & 45 minutes later i was an Alberta Resident trapper.

Default licence

I don't have any of my old licences any more, but I do have my trappers safety card, similar to tge hunters safety certificate I got in Manitoba.

Default trapping courses

i am not trapping course instructor, and yes you can challenge the course. the test is not that hard. but, by not taking a course from a good instructor your missing out on a lot of useful information.

i took an ata course in '84 when i was 13 years old, years later when i finally was able to full fill my dream of getting my own line i learned my course was no good, as they only accepted them from 89 on. i was bummed!

thought about challenging the course and was told i should. instead i took the course and i'm i ever glad i did. trappers are a "secretive bunch" and it can be hard to get useful info/tips/tricks. from fur handling to lure making,chainsaw-snowmachine modification, sets, management(i mean YOY to adult ratio's) and much more, the info was priceless and very worth it. a person just never knows enough when it comes to trapping.

as for people trying to get their own line, the instructors are generally in the "know" on available lines that are worth trapping and the ones that aren't and can help you get your foot in the door.
