We were at Beaver Mines Lake on the May long weekend. The fishing was fairly good, and I caught one of the brood stock trout that F&W releases every year. What a brute! 8.3 pounds! I don't think I'll ever top that size of fish out if Beaver Mines.

The majority of fish that we caught were about 12 inches or so. We were fly fishing and the fish weren't picky, taking everything from wooly buggers to small pheasant tail nymphs. We never really asked anyone what they were using for bait or lures, but everyone seemed to be catching a few fish.

Sunday of the long weekend caught and released about 18 and kept 3 to eat, all in about 2 hours. We were using Powerbait.

Any recent updates? Any success from shore or do you need a boat or float tube?

We where ther june 9 fishing from shore and caught 15 in about 3 hours the bigest was about 18 inches, but most of them were all around the 10-14 inch range had a tone of bites. we found that marshmallows worked the best along wilth worms on a pickeral rig. lots os people catching fish from shore and out on the lake in a boat .

Thanks for the feedback. See anyone using a fly rod at all, and having success?

I fish Beaver Mines quite often, usually from a belly boat. You can fly fish from shore in some spots, but in others there isn't very much room for your back cast, so I think a tube is a good idea. The wind can be strong at times though.

The fish in Beaver Mines usually aren't very picky, so small nymphs like pheasant tails, hairs ears, etc. will usually work. Wooly buggers and chironomids also work well. If the fish are rising they will usually take the typical dries like adams, elk hair caddis, etc.

We usually fish at the far end of the lake from where the road first comes up to the lake. There are quite a few sunken logs that the fish like to use for cover at the far end. I got quite the surprise on the May long weekend this year at this spot, catching an 8 pound brood stock rainbow on a 4 weight. It was quite a bit of fun to say the least!

8# must have been quite the epic fight on a light weight rod! Congrats.
