Pine coulee
Looking through the new regs and they list walleye limit at 3 but over 50cm
Fished it a lot last year and did not for sure catch a 50. Most were in the 35-40cm size range.
Wonder how many are gonna be poached out of there by those who fail to read the new regulations.

it's an odd phrasing;
is it 3 or 3 over 50cm?
does a dot mean 3 over 50cm?
does 3 mean any size?
if you go from the ES1 of which pcr is listed, then look at phrasing for PP1 and then look at the pike column as a phrasing example, a dot means 3 over 63cm and other lakes just say 3, or a designated size.
so back to the walleye in pcr; is the number any size or not?
I'm going to phone in and ask, because they won't have a clue either.

My understanding is that the "3" would supersede the default limit according to the legend at the top of the regs. A dot is for the default any exceptions are listed in the box. It should by that indicate 3 fish of any size.

I think you will find it is a limit of 3, no size restriction

Now I am a bit confused, dot means default regulations the example in the regs is 3 over 63 indicates a possession and size limit and 3 or 10- indicates a possession limit of that species. hmmmm
Now what to think. Maybe it is still same as last yr. no size limit but possession is 3
Think I'll wait for a ruling from a F&W officer first.

I think we need to read the es1 regs again.
LAKES
A. For Trout-Stocked Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds in ES1
See Alberta’s Fish Stocking Program list and regulations or,
Follow the regulations at each listed waterbody
B. For Lakes, Reservoirs, Ponds and fish species listed under ES1 Lake and Stream Listings
Follow the regulations of each listed waterbody.
C. Default regulations for ES1 Lakes, Reservoirs and Ponds not included under (A) or (B) and for fish species not mentioned at a waterbody,
Open all year – Bull Trout limit 0; Trout limit 5; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Walleye limit 3 over 50 cm; Pike limit 3, (no size limit); Arctic Grayling limit 0; Perch limit 15; Lake Whitefish limit 10; Burbot limit 10); Bait, except bait fish allowed.

Question now becomes why not just put a dot across from PCR which would indicate 3 over 50.
IT is a 3 not a dot which would now lead one to believe that is the possession limit and has nothing to do with the 3 over 50.

You are allowed 3 walleye over 50cm and 3 pike of no size limit.

If there is no dot, the info in the cell is the regulation. For Pine Coulee walleye, the regulation is daily limit 3, with no size limit specified.

No dot means no size limit hence 3 no size the same as last year.

3 no size restriction makes sense. They are stocking rainbows in there and in my opinion want to extirpate the walleye population. So have at em'...

Has anyone seen any sign of the trout they stocked there last fall or did they just feed the pike and walleye?

From the regs...
"Legend: "Dot" = Default regulations for Fish Management Zone ES1. As examples ‘3 over 63’ indicates a possession and a size limit and ‘3’ or ‘10’ indicates a possession limit for that species of any size."
So Pine Coulee has a Dot under the column for "Season" meaning it is the default for ES1 - open all year.
It also has a 3 under both the walleye and pike columns but not size restrictions under either. See the underlined portion above. This means it is subject to special regulations - a three limit for both species. It does not mean PC is subject to the default regulations which are 3 walleye over 50 cm.

None the less. Pretty confusing to many. They could have done a better job.

It is 3. The top says 3 over 50cm and if you look at a lake that is 3 over 50cm it has a DOT eg. St Marys res. So the 3 overrides the 50cm on that lake.
