That's how I saw it too, going by the rules Bat119 linked it only says when a batter intentionally or deliberately interferes with the play. He was about to touch the base and the play was behind him. Heck of a time to enact an obscure call like that.

If the Nats do pull it off I hope Rodney is on the mound to close it out, would be a fitting way for him to go out, the guy has played for a LOT of different teams (this is his 10'th team) and is the oldest player in the league at 42 with no rings. I'd love to see him show these kids how to get it done with experience, and score a victory for all us 40 something's

Here's hoping for a tie game after 9 full and going to extra innings.

Do love it when it isn’t a sweep. Makes for some good ball and today every team will bring their A game(I hope). Would be awesome if it went to extra innings!

Yah it would be cool to see Rodney on the bump but for that to happen I think the nats would have to be up 47-3 lol even then he would have a short leash hah.. can’t wait for the game tonight .. I just hope sherzer is right .. would be a shame if he couldn’t locate or was off because of his back tightness ...

Yea, I know it's a long shot but it would be a heck of a way for him to go out.

Maybe they can put him on someone's shoulders and round the bases surrounded by the whole team or something cool like that.

Got a fresh bottle of Gooderham & Worts three grain just for the game and half a dozen friends coming over.

Gettin excited!

GO NATS!!!

Softball has a safety bag in foul territory that you must run through. Totally different rules.

WOW!! Just like that after Greinke threw lights out. Just AWESOME!

Got 9 friends over all pulling for the Expos, think my neighbors 3 blocks away could hear us on that long ball.

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE playoff Baseball?

Good explanation. I played this game very seriously for many years and it was my passion... before it turned to hunting. The rule was made to stop the runner from purposefully running inside the line to try to impede the throw on bunts, dribblers etc. The runner hits the ball and is inside the line, the base is inside the line. What I sew in this case was the runner running straight towards the bag trying to beat it out, not making any attempts to block and if anything he makes a slight movement at the bag to make sure he misses the first baseman. It was the perfect (bad throw in the perfect spot) for them to make that call, I don't like it. I am glad it had no bearing on the game.

That said... I am so happy the Nats (Expos) won. The oldest team in baseball and they grinded it out. I was sure worried when Sherzer was struggling every inning with so many base runners.
