A little polish and detailing and it will be just like new. Must have been in a container to not be on the bottom of the ocean. Neat find. I cant imagine how much crap must be floating around from that sunami.

The owner has been located from the license plate. He lost his home and a few immediate family members that day. I don't know if if's going to be shipped back to him or not, saw the fellow (original Japanese owner) in a press conference this morning.

I don't know about the clowns under the paper write up who are running down Harley's and don't know anything about them, but this is a Soft-tail Evo 80 inch , not a Shovelhead, enough said. "If I have to explain it too you , it ain't worth my time.." P.S. It's sad, because of the Japanese this bike is no longer worth restoring..you can buy one now for $6000.00 to $8000.00 in good condition. 20yrs ago when you bought one you could sell 5yrs later for more than what you paid for it...And yeah I know where there is a good one forsale right now.......contact me........

What's so sad about an Island Harley Dealer restoring the bike for the fellow from Japan that owns it?
Not really a big deal if it's only worth 5 grand - but a hell of a fine gesture just the same.
The recession state side has really knocked down the prices of these bikes.
Remember, "Ninety Five percent of the Harley's Registered in the USA are still on the Road - The Other 5 Percent Made it Home".
Looks like this ones going home - to Japan!

I didn't know that a Island Harley Dealer is going to restore it for him!!What is sad, is that the Japanese have ruined the concept. Wiily G. Davidson had to give in and start having lesser quality parts shipped in, in order to compete and the cheaper Japanese parts reflect on the quality and resale value, also the ability to fix yourself and mostly the pride of owning a superior machine!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will let you know what we find this summer.
Actually we will be keeping our eys open, but I think the QCI will block most of the stuff.
Perhaps around Dundas we might find some gear.

I haven't read motorcycle stats lately; but when I was shopping for a new 1999 motorcycle I was doing lots of reading, and the Yamaha Royal Stars back then were stopping 20+feet sooner than comparable model Hogs in braking tests. Considering the importance of good brakes I sure hope that H-D's engineers have caught up to the 'inferior' Japanese bikes in terms of safety by now. The Harleys I checked at the recent bike show looked great, but I still look at every aspect of the machines instead of just blindly flailing one brand name and mocking all others. I applaud the Japanese brands for helping Harley improve what was a rudimentary line into something a bit more sophisticated and detailed. Certainly the Italians can claim a part in Harleys improvement as well.

You mean "Guys that ride Harleys and take Viagra get laid more than guys that ride Harleys and don't take Viagra".
Doesn't really matter - most Harley guys need the Big V Twin.

Caber Tosser, you would be stopping a 600 lb. Royal Star 15 ft. sooner than a 900 lb FLHTC ( a big Harley ) , for a little less money would you really want to be on the inferior bike if you had less than that 15 ft to stop...........Refer to the quote...........As far as broke down, oil leaking Hogs go , your talking years ago. And if you were there the ones that were broke down were the young fellas with wore out bikes that fought in WW11. Knuckleheads , Flatty's and on into the '50's even some Pan's...All built before Kawasaki even thought about letting the good times roll.

I used the word comparable to indicate bikes of similar weight and class. It was a motorcycle magazine that complied the comparison chart, not I, certainly the weight variance was not so extreme (I'd have noted it and negated the difference). Being so long ago I certainly don't have the issue for reference, but I did look at the Yamaha's while I was buying my Blackbird at Bow Cycle. I wound up with a sport tourer/crotch rocket at the time, but these days would lean towards a Yamaha FJR 1300. I really do like the V-Rods and two other H-D's I saw at the motorcycle show, but the big fat cruisers are certainly not my cup of tea. Harley did have some rough times there going back 15 or so years, certainly many management issues and financial troubles. It's great to see them thriving and making better product due to their own innovation as well as motivation and advancement brought forward from talented competition.
If I had substantial funds I'd own a few Hog's, but also some Yamaha's, Ducati's and maybe a BMW. Just sayin its a pretty good smorgasbord out there
Anyways, it's a pretty sweet turn that some people got on board with this unique find and are making it a feel-good happening for this unfortunate fellow.

Caber Tosser , I agree with you. I have two new ones in my garage and a '57, it's the '57 I like to ride but my hands are always dirty when I get home, to me that's the magic of it. And in this story it brings back the memories of the comradery we had in the '70's and 80's. Sorry if I came on a little hard but Harleys don't leak anymore and it's the first thing that comes out of most of the yuppies heads now a days. Any way it's bedtime...........

I spend a lot of time on north beach up by Masset on the QCI's and you would not believe some of the stuff that washes up. Once their were hundreds of oranges all over the place and on another occasion it was Nike runners. I assume both cases were packing crates falling over. It does make a fun day taking the quads down the beach for miles just having a look for whatever their happens to be. My back yard is just full of floats, crab traps and other "treasures". I will however keep a extra watchful eye out this summer for a new Harley.

Geeze, my father has a sign in his garage that says "Harley Parking. Jap bikes will be crushed". Do you mean to tell me he actually owns a mostly Jap bike and doesn't realize it (it's a relatively new Electraglide)? LOL

Yeah sorry to say but the future caught up to us, most of the components are foriegn. York Pa. is still where the engines are made and in Ol' Milwaukee is where the frames are built and everything is assembled.
