Default Impala done!!!

Just got my Impala done from my trip to Africa. I have a great outfitter that I have sent quite a few guys over to hunt with and there are some fantastic trophies brought home. Africa Rocks is all I have to say about that!!!! These are one of the best looking critters over there and I am happy to have a great taxidermist that knows how to put it together. The detail is crazy good. Check out the septum in the nose on this one!!!

Good stuff Phill!!! That turned out really nice! Septume looks great did he use a different nose peice or did he custom build it from the original form?

Gramps73- I showed the Septum and inner nose in a close up because the difference in a good mount from a crappy one is the fine details. Alex built in a clear septum in the middle of the nose in this mount like he does in them all. That way when painted over softly the nose cavity is deep like it is supposed to be and the septum between the 2 nostrils are showing and partially transparent and realistic looking. I think that is the reason and if not then I imagine Alex or someone else can tell us.
A lot of guys will post a picture of a mount at a distance and it will easily hide the flaws this way. If you really want to show a mount off the close ups are what really matters to prove it's worth.

Buckbrush, like I said he added his own septum to the form. You can get change out noses for deer and other forms but I don't think they come with a septum installed. Alex knows animal body shapes and can see where he needs to add clay or change a form to be anatomically correct. Some forms he will cut the whole head off and use a change out head depending on what form to use and what animal he mounts. It is hard for the average guy to see what needs to be changed. I know very little of what is right and wrong in a form unless shown and it all makes sense and makes a mount that more better when the little details are changed to be correct.

i got two impala, that dont look anywhere near that detailled. mine look like they went through a drivethrough carwash

african critters are real tuff to do a good job, thick skin, thin hair, most everything have a scar of some sort...if youve seen the bushes (whitethorn, hookthorn) over there its amazing they have any skin at all

Mike 780 it was Advantage taxidermy. Google it up.

Roger, you are right about tough to do. You should see the job he did on the ears. Thin and the hairline is perfect. Tough to do on a short haired animals like this. The other great thing about Alex is he does the tanning as well and can get the hides thinned and have more stretch than a tannery. They won't have a pile of holes from a tannery as well that need patching. They are well taken care of. Got to love the thorn bush. Funny thing is that right before I shot it it was rubbing it's head on a bush just like the one he put on the mount. I think it was called a Raisin bush or something like that.

I like the richness of the horns. Any idea what was used to bring out the colour so well?

Great looking mount for sure. I was also curious what was used to polish up the horns as they are way deeper and richer in color than in ur field photo. I love how it makes the mount more majestic in appearance.

Mudhunter- the animals are salted dipped and packed so that no bugs get into it and the taxiermist sends them to me here for the work to get done. The box also gets Fumagated and the horns are put into a solution to make sure there are no creepy crawlys that get here that are not supposed to be.

Not sure about the horns guys. Maybe talk it over with Alex at Advantage Taxidermy. I think a lot of the African horns are over painted a lot of the time and they are made to be too dark in color. Maybe once the horns are cleaned as well the color comes out in them. I know he did do something to them as they did not look that good when I took them in. I thought they were suposed to be darker and asked him about that but he said this was the right color for them to be. Do you gius prefere them darker or have a more black look or like this??

Here is a picture of the other one we got on the trip. I think once the mud and dust is cleaned up from them the true color starts to stand out and they are more brown than black. What do you think ?
