Default Adding goose decoys

Last year I started waterfowl hunting and managed to have some success with a dozen mallard decoys. This year I'm adding in a 3-d wind mallard and I have some old goose decoys that I want to fix up.

I was just wondering what the chances are that three goose decoys will attract the occasional goose or two in, if they're with the duck dekes?

I know some guys that early season hunt with half a dozen goose decoys and have great success.
Having a large spread helps with a few things 1 attracting birds and 2 you can control where the birds land.

When geese land in a field there aint always 200 birds small spreads can and do work.

Are you talking a water hunt or field btw?

They will work good for small groups don't expect large flocks (does happen though) but they will also act as confidence decoys for the ducks. I use two just for that reason.

I would suggest that you put them just beside the ducks as oppossed to in the spread with the ducks, at least that's what I do

Water hunt. I have a couple dozen silhouettes and a dozen shells too, but I haven’t done the leg word to get permission in a field yet.

OK, thanks.

Will the ducks land between the spreads then, or will they usually still try to cozy up to the duck dekes?

I limit on ducks all the time and actually prefer a heated duck battle any day. funny thing is I dont use duck decoys, only goose decoys. Save your money and buy some good goose decoys and yes they will land right in with the goose decoys.

as a fyi The mojo's work great with the goose decoys on

Thanks! That's good to know. One guy told me that the geese might be scared away by the motion of the wings.

Ducks will come to goose decoys as mentioned and so will geese of course. Keep in mind that although ducks will come to a Mojo duck decoy, it will scare geese; therefore, you should use a Mojo decoy that has a remote off/on switch so when the geese are coming, just switch the Mojo off and let them (geese) land in the decoys.

agree with pixel.
ducks will definately come to the goose decoys, i have about 16 duck decoys that were given to me and i have never needed to take them out. assuming your hunting canada geese and not snow geese. there totally different. good luck

Ducks will land with any decoy but the reason I put my geese 5 to 10 yards away from my duck decoys is I find if they are mixed together that the geese shy away and try to land just outside the spread but if the geese are already a few feet apart then they usually try to cozy up to the goose decoys you have out.

As stated by others it will not affect you're ducks in fact it sometimes helps as they act as confidence.

That is just my opinion anyway.
