Turn your jaw jacker into an ifish pro

Wanted to try fishing for pike with big baits and the bail open, without having to get a bunch more gear, so picked up some spring door stoppers from crappy tire, shoved a flag into it, drilled a hole in the end with a loop of string, wrapped an elastic band around the trip device, and presto, can use it either way now, cost under 5 bux

Nice. I have been thinking about making something similar but was unsure about how to trip the flag. You nailed it with the elastic band and the looped line.

Cool idea will have to try that. I have had pretty good luck with the Ifish but can be a bit of a pain in my opinion having to rig the trigger as it has to be threaded with a bobber stop.

The HT rigger works pretty well to though. I find not as reliable a trigger as the Ifish but works ok. Fishing deeper water it saves a lot of time.



Having just one set up is appealing and will definitely be putting that to use in the future. Thanks for sharing that set up.

How do you keep the line from freezing in the hole. This will work in above zero temps.

Use a hole cover, also keeps the bells from going down the hole if they fall off

You can beak off if you need to, but all you need to do is tie a 1/2 loop in your line and hook it on the trigger mechanism with your bail open and a couple feet of loose line. Fish sets off rod without any resistance and you see the rod up in the air. Ya, maybe put a hook on it.

Not sure what you are getting at but would love to see an example. Stein is just suggesting another way to rig a rod up for ice fishing and didn't need the peanut gallery. The only one doing any "beaking" is you.

Interesting but I'd rather operate the JJ in it's intended use as a hook setter. I have more success with JJ hook setting than tip-up hook setting, when fishing for jackfish. So I get to fish with a rod and reel and it gets more hookups, in my experience. I also tend to stick closer to the JJ and react faster than I would with a tip-up.

Your right and I apologize ! Clearly its a great idea and a patent should be put on it as soon as possible. The breaking off comment was directed at the comment of maybe putting a hook and line on it. It was my mistake commenting on this thread in the first place. Very sorry OL and Stein.

yes im aware you can dry fire your rod with a half hitch over the trigger lol but thats not how ifishpro works, and this setup replicates that way of doing it, but feel free to list every other way of doing it

Just used the screw it comes with, drilled a pilot hole into the plastic
