Children’s toys, clothes, even blood sugar monitors were among the items recovered in a parcel-theft investigation that has resulted in charges against an Airdrie woman.

RCMP say between November and December 2014, they received numerous complaints of holiday parcels being stolen after they had been delivered.

“Indications we’re getting are this individual was just driving around and picking up packages off doorsteps,” said Const. Jason Curtis with the Airdrie RCMP.

Following an extensive investigation, officers executed a search warrant on an Airdrie home and discovered a large quantity of stolen property.

The majority of the items were children’s toys and clothes. But officers also found an entire box of blood-sugar monitors — “the kind you use to poke your finger” — as well as products from Bath and Body Works, which had already been opened and used, Curtis said.

“All these packages were wrapped … presumably she wouldn’t know what was inside,” Curtis said. “There was a very odd collection of items.”

He said some residents told police they believed their missing items were being sold on Kijiji, but those reports are not yet confirmed, he added.

Elia Rullan, 40, of Airdrie, was charged with 12 charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. Rullan is expected to appear in court on Jan. 29.

Investigators have managed to return items to 21 people, but are still trying to track down the rightful owners to more than 100 items, Curtis said, urging anyone whose parcels went missing during that time to contact police.

“Hopefully, we can make someone’s day a bit better by getting their stuff back to them,” Curtis said.

Additional charges may be laid as the investigation progresses and more items are returned to their owners.
