Might be a dumb question...but is there any benefit to adding people to your group for the draw?

Or have them each put in separately?

I just never understood why you would add people to your own application.

Depends on how many of ur group want to keep fish I guess.
We are P2 for class B and P1 for class A.
So we will likely mix things up so we can keep a few over 50 cm and a few under.
Oh, and keep things separate if ur P's are not the same.

You only pay the one fee for 4 people.

If you wanted to put in with some buddies, you can pay the $4 for 4 entries, and either you all get drawn, or no one gets drawn. It goes off the lowest priority member in the group.

So if there is a P5, P4, P3 and a P1 in a group, the priority for the group is 1.

I think the whole system is a dirty scam that ruins our lakes and puts a price on a fish that we all already paid for at least once. Half of the money they say goes back into fisheries where does the other half go. If they need money sell some raffle tickets or have some derbies. The saskatchewan and manitobans laugh out loud when they see how it is handled. There I said it I will just shut my mouth now. My own opinion.

X2
Draws might be okay on a few lakes near the bigger populated areas cause of the crazy pressure. But...
Elsewhere why isn't there slot size????
That's why others are laughing at this.
Alberta loves everyone keeping all the big fish that spawn and having lakes full of hammerhandles and tiny walleye and 4" long perch.....

No coincidence that they being big hero's by opening up a hand full of lakes when the economy is in the outhouse. Make a few more bucks...never mind the gas for the boat and truck or the cup of coffee and the bag of snacks at the gas station that's taxed all to hell already. The lakes are already over populated and on the verge of winter kill with the exception of a couple but put it all over the media that our wonderful government "opened" up a few more lakes....if you "open" up your wallet. Makes me sick. My opinion only.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't for providing more opportunities. Everyone has a solution for better Alberta fishing.

It's easy for the tag system. Don't like it, don't participate. Doesn't hurt others priorities in the draw.

We have unique scenery and fishing opportunities within them. I'm sure SK and MB have "mountain envy".

I applied, 999ed everything. I did notice, unless I misread something, that it appears the number of licenses available per class has gone down for this year for lakes that were in the draw last year. Did anyone else notice this or am I hallucinating?

I noticed the same thing. Long lake has only 14 class A tags for example

Yeah, I think that was new this year...or at least as far as I recall. Class A at Pigeon was 700+ and Gull was ...I think...1,400+
I'm sure it is available again if one checks. Good to see the numbers (quota) when actually applying.

Default What about minors?

Safe assumption that the tags also apply to minors? I am taking my friend's kids out this summer, aged 11 and 12, if they want to keep fish, do they apply for tags as well as their mom and me? And then, all 4 of us can apply together?

Thanks in advance any clarity here. Cheers.

Mike

Has there ever been a break down of where draw $$$ goes? Walleye stocking? General revenue? I know the retailer takes there cut, and I've seen the break down for licenses.

After speaking with one of the Bios the number of tags will go down each year based on the modelling until the lake can be test netted again. I think it was a 5 year cycle for monitoring but changes based on yearly available budget. Some lakes and reservoirs scheduled for 5 are taking up to 7-10 years until they can be re-netted.

Over 300,000 Sportfishing licences were sold in 2016 generating over $8.6M in revenue representing a slight decrease in sales over 2015. For each $1 of revenue collected:
l $0.64 is distributed to the Alberta Conservation Association. For more information on how funds are used to support Fisheries programs, please visit www.ab-conservation.com
l $0.31 is used for licensing allocation and administration providing compensation to the Service Provider and the network of private Licence Issuers as well as provides funds for programs to monitor fish populations. For more information, visit mywildalberta.com
l $0.05 goes to Government of Alberta General Revenue Fund
