Default Three dead beavers in a stretch of 100m

So I was out fishing my local river and there’s two dead beavers within ten feet of each other and one about 70 yards away. I had baby beavers swim within a foot of my kayak I’m assuming that’s it’s their parents.. should I call someone? Who do I call? I’m assuming someone is killing these beavers but I have no way of knowing for sure

Fish and wildlife. Some rancher probably shot them as they were knocking down trees on his / her land.

Not really a shame. Beavers can do a ton of damage.

Yea I get that but to leave them in a creek floating is kinda a buzz kill when you wanna go out and enjoy what nature has to offer. people still trap beavers so I assume the pelt is worth something , to me it just seems like a waste. Idk I’m no expert just don’t like seeing a death pile while I’m out fishing lol

It likely won't be long until a bear or a cougar completes the circle of life.

Just looked up laws on beaver hunting and trapping and I honestly had no idea you were able to just hunt them all year long on your land. Learn something new everyday.

There is a reason for it. They can do horrible damage if left unchecked.

Pelts are worthless this time of year.

I’ve got a chunk of land on a medium sized river and I kill about 10 a year. I save some as bear bait but freezer space becomes an issue. They wreak havoc on the trees and cause extra erosion where they burrow into the bank.

Yea there’s definitely a lot on that stretch of water. Do the happen to teach you about this type of thing in hunter training? I’d love to just learn more than hunt. I would have had no idea.

No sympathy from me, beavers on my land are open season, 2021 shot 46. No I dont fish out the dead to control urbanite shock. Yes they are cute, have them destroy your trees and flood good land they are done. I have filled in trenches 6 feet deep 100 yards long from them.

I have 2 friends that have tried it. One it was an experience, the other says beaver tail is better than fillet mignon and will eat it whenever he traps.

Ya , my dad says if you put an onion in every window in the house you won’t get cold or flue. Works 60% of the time every time .😁

I watched Steven Rinella Cook one up in a crock pot that he had trapped.
Looked delicious, but it was the only animal I ever saw him cook, but never actually eat. He just kept picking at it with his fork and talking about how delicious they are. Never put in his mouth. Lol
I'm good feeding them to the bears.

OP, do you know if they were they actually killed by humans? You may be looking at a small tularemia outbreak.
May have also not been the intention to leave them there if they were shot. Sometimes when beavers are shot, they dive. If they do, sometimes they will not come back up till they bloat later, or the next day.

Is your dad from New Brunswick? I once listened to a couple of co-workers from NB debate whether grabbing ahold of a rubber boot was a more effective method of keeping lightning away than simply shutting all the windows in your house (dont forget the chimney flue, or it will sneak in through there!)...

Probably the most surreal 5 minuets of my life, it was like falling through a portal into an alternate dimension where everyone had been dropped on their heads as an infant.

With these fires animals will be traveling in all directions looking for food, they will eat the dead ones and snack one the living . They will tear a bever house up if they smell life inside .

Just another cycle of life .

The animal population may take a hell of a thumping with this firs .

TC said he seen fresh sign at his stands so hope fully many dodge the danger .

No I have no idea if they were shot or not but there is an obvious incentive for someone to at that spot as to eroding banks over time. I assume anything you cook enough times you’d figure out how to make taste good I would love to go collect wild rice too sounds like a Canadian meal to me!

I ate my share of beaver and yes with wild rice some home made Bannock makes a great meal .

I would use cheese cloth as it was cooking a wring the hell out of it to remove the oil ,stick on each end and twist . remove from cloth and keep cooling and repeat . In real cold winter months the fat is good for energy in the bitter cold.

I wouldn't eat any beavers in ponds full of bugs and parasites ,clen flowing waters are the ones I like ,

LOL, have heard that more than once growing up there. Always asked if they used a purple or white onion. They said it didn't matter it will turn black by morning if you were infected, thats how they knew it worked. If it stayed the same color you weren't sick.

And yes have known them to put rubber boots on and go sit in their cars in a lightning storm.

Found two dead young ones this year up on dry land a fair ways away from water. They looked like they were turned inside out and only the meaty parts eaten. Big time smell.

I should say the dogs found them --- seen them rolling in something and went to investigate.

No idea what predator would do that.
