Default Another winterizing question...

My Lund owner's manual says I can store the boat with the buit in tank full of stabilized fuel or drain it completely. Is one better than the other? I have a Mercury 4 stroke.

Up until now I had a 2 stroke engine and portable tank which I emptied at the end of the season.

I think it’s a personal preference thing, full, half or empty. From what I understand the full tank theory was back in the days with metal tanks, now a days most are plastic and condensation is less of an issue. I also have an inboard tank and running 4strk outboard.I treated my fuel on the last outing with some Seafoam (Napa has it) making sure it is thoroughly mixed and distributed through out the fuel system, have been doing this for the past several years without any issues, tank is about 1/3 full.

Default 4 stroke outboard winter storage

Is it necessary to fog the pistons?

Not recommended with fuel injection as fogging oils will plug the injectors, with the older carburated engines, yes it’s a good idea. With my efi engine I still remove the plugs/coils and spray some fogging oil into each cylinder and rotate by hand a couple revs and then install plugs /coils....just as a precautionary measure….
