Red face Big buck down

We got this guy at 915am on monday morning, called him in with my brother.

We are speechless and its our first big whitetail. Incredible mass.

Tell me what you think of him and his score perhaps. It doesnt matter to me its a trophy in my books, very mature deer.

Congrats! Mature deer, I like that upright look. Been a terrific couple of days this week so far - they're really moving around. Welcome to the big buck club - sometimes the toughest big game animal there is to get close to!!!

Great looking deer. Unfortunately he's one of those old deer that won't score a whole lot and definitley won't be representitive of his trophy quality. Personally I wouldn't lay a tape on him.

The score might be a little disapointing, I know, I took a fabulous old mature WT too. Score ... I could care less, I was with my boy ( 10 yrs old ) , just to lay a hand on the old boy, wonderin how he made it to the day we met?? .. the older the wiser fer sure. Anyway, congrats, on a fine deer, love the mass.

Stout set of antlers there. I don't think he's an old buck. Take a look at his teeth, that will tell you..

Steve,

Congrats on a great mature buck. I don't think you have any reason to be upset with Sheephunter or Rackmaster though. They both sounded really happy for you. I think they just don't want to see you put too much value on how your bucks scores. He's a great buck in my opinion but I have to agree with those two guys in that he isn't going to score all that high. When bucks get older like yours, their tines lose a lot of length and more of the antler growth comes in the form of mass. I particularly like the bucks, like yours, with lots of mass and think they make great trophies...but they typically don't score well because of how important tine length is in scoring. If you focus on the score and then your buck doesn't go as high as you'd expected, you may end up being unhappy with it when it really is a great trophy that you have every right to be proud of.

Yep, my point was that you'll be dissapointed if you put a tape to a deer like that. Some deer just are much better trophies without worrying about the score. He's a heavy cool lookin buck......be proud of him and enjoy him for the trophy he is. The score doenst matter, and that was the intent of our post......

Score doesnt always equate to trophy size, and that buck shows it. If you took exception to what I said, then sorry....but if it was me I simply would keep a tape away and be proud without worryin about what he scored....

Great buck Steve! The boys weren't dissin' ya at all. There's just too many incorrect scoring stories out there that they didn't want ya to be dissapointed with a much lower score than you were expecting.

I'm out for maybe the last time in the am, and the is a WT spike I'm aiming for. If sucessful, it may be one of my greatest trophys as it would be my first archery buck.

A trophy has very little to do with the score IMHO until ya get older and start running out of 'firsts'. Congrts on a beauty Steve!

Actually wasn't joking but certainly no insult intended either..it's a great buck....Just meant he wasn't one those bucks where his trophy quality was going to be well represented on a piece of paper...throw a tape on him if you like. I'd shoot him over lots of 140 class deer that I've seen but guessing he won't net anywhere near that.

Sorry if you took any offense as there certainly was none intended....once again, congrats on a fine deer.

Please put a tape to it. I think he's a 142 buck net. I have one that is a 4 pt. with very similar frame and it scores over 130.

You might be close 700 but i dont think over 140.

Longdraw,i gave it 22 inch's just to be safe.

Look forward to hearing a score and it should make a beautiful mount.
