Default exporting game meat question

Let's just say...if a friend lawfully harvests a deer, then gets some sausage made out of it...can "my" friend send some sausage to a friend in the USA?

Good question. Might want to check with the member "Rackmaster" on this issue.

Dont think you can, since the BSE came through the country they have pretty much shut down any meat going accross if they can. My brother trucks and he cannot have sandwich meat in his sandwiches otherwise they throw them out on them. It migh tbe diff now but not sure, if you can you will need to go through alot of paperwork to get it there and permits also

I think you can. With the amount of American; coming to Canada each year to hunt and fish they must be taking the meat back. What else would they do with it? There is probably a bunch of paperwork needed to be filled out.

I'm not sure about sending sausage to the US but I do know there is no problem taking wild game meat down there with you if you killed it yourself. We go down there every year for a couple of months and fill up the freezer in our trailer with venison. US Customs definitely wants to know that you killed it yourself and they require you to show your hunting licence. Up until last year, I had to fill out some paper work for them. Last year the customs officer simply asked if I had shot it myself and asked to see my hunting licence. If I recall correctly, they also want to know if it's for your own consumption.

My experience is only with big game meat. I don't know what the deal is on game birds. I do know they won't let you bring in domestic poultry or even eggs because of concerns about avian flu.
