He was most likely hoping for an Edmonton trade but settled for Vancouver.

5 points out of a wildcard spot, do they push for a playoff spot or sell assets ?? best record in the pacific in the last 10 games 7 - 3 Conroy has a dilemma, Hanafin, Tanev and Markstrom ??? the next week will be interesting.

It's black and white, if they aren't re-signed, trade them.

I think Flames are gonna have a fire sale. Maybe Tanev and Hanafin both go to the Southern Flames (Florida Panthers). They seem intent on stacking for another push. And Markstrom could end up with Gio and Brodie in front of him. Another team looking for answers.

Or I could be doing that AO special, uninformed speculation.

Commentators were saying yesterday that Craig C. Wants to field a competitive team for Kippers number retirement. Then the fire sale begins.

Does Calgary ever have full scale rebuilds? Seems Calgary is always king of mediocrity. Never the best and never the worst kinda builds.
Delaying ANYTHING for the sake of retiring a jersey seems like a mistake to me.
An unnecessary extra year of mediocrity before reaching greatness.
Maybe they are scared of first picks. Hasn’t been great for Edmonton lol.

Just heard on SN what Conroy is asking for Hanfin, a young player that's playing right now, a 1st round pick and another pick 2nd or 3rd round, that's pretty steep for a rental but someone making a cup run may cough up.

Seems like a fairly underwhelming return.

Default Tanev traded

Quote:
The Calgary Flames traded veteran defenseman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for a 2024 second-round pick, a conditional 2026 third-round pick and prospect Artem Grushnikov, the teams announced. The Flames are retaining 50 percent of Tanev’s cap hit and salary. Calgary only receives Dallas’ 2026 third-round pick if the Stars advance to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. If that doesn’t happen, no conditional pick will be transferred.

Generally, players/agents get consulted in these situations. If Tanev has made it clear that he wants to test free agency this summer, a 2nd rounder is probably fair value for him.

Note that Flames had to retain salary. Cap space is always an issue and can limit the number of teams to trade with.

Hanifin is next up. If the Flames can do a 'sign and trade' with a team that Hanifin prefers, expect the Flames to get a bigger return. Hanifin is easily worth a 1st.

Great to see they will be hoisting Kipper's jersey into the rafters Saturday, long overdue. He's my favorite goalie ever. There are a couple more that belong up there too imo, Al McInnes for one.

Yes he was, and with a wooden stick too. Broke the boards behind nets several times.

Nice comeback win for Flames, with Kipper watching. All is well now.

Kinda sucks when you're 3 pts back of a playoff spot, win five straight, and then your 5 pts back of a playoff spot.

Good comeback. Kadri was playing good.

Huberdeau still needs to find another gear.

They are hanging in and playing well, 5 points back of a wildcard, will Conroy continue the fire sale or stand pat and make a push to try and make the playoffs, 5 days till trade deadline

The odds aren't great, most have it around 20-25% chance.

Currently on the 2nd longest win streak the league though....

A nice feature on the nhl website is that you can look at the standings on any given date.

On the day after the Flames last loss they were in 6th place in the race for the 2 wildcard spots. They were 5 points back of the 2nd wildcard team.

Five games later, without a loss, the Flames are still 5 points behind the 2nd wildcard team. They have managed to move into 3rd place in the wildcard race.

Nashville is on a tear and the Blues have been sliding.

Well last night certainly didn't help their push for a wildcard spot, Pospisill could be in line for some discipline, that looked nasty

I was originally kind of disappointed for the return for Lindholm and Tanev, but seeing what Ottawa just got for Tarasenko, a 2025 3rd rounder and a 2024 4th rounder, maybe it wasn't so bad!

Lindholm: 64 GP, 13 goals, 38 pts.
Tarasenko: 57 GP, 17 Goals, 41 pts.

I'm preparing myself to be disappointed in the Hanifin trade, Hayden Fleury and their 2025 2nd rounder, or some such.
